Storing car, where do i put the stands.

id say just use cinderblocks and a car cover. ive seen too many of those storage tent things get blown over and damage a car with their frames. probably be around the same amount of money. where did you get railroad ties from?!

I would put those railroad ties the width of the underbody on the subframes on either side of the car. that would be an ideal support and balance all of the weight. good luck man I wish I could store my car for the stupid winter. :notgood:

If you do use something like that, I would suggest using sand bags on the bottom rail to hold it down, and be sure to ALWAYS clear off any built up snow so as not to have a cave in. The blocks should cross under the frame right behind the front wheel well and right in front of the rear one.

their will be some kind of tent/garage,so i dont think i have to worry about snow

I think he meant to keep the snow cleared off the tent if you choose to go with one so as to not have the tent cave in on your car.

I'd also like to see those boards perpendicular to the car...dunno why but doing it parellell would scare the crap out of me, especially on grass and not cement.

As far as the garage thing goes, I got one from BJ's wholesale for my T/A it works perfect you just have to be creative in anchoring it correctly. I drove 4 foot lengths of 1/4" threaded rod into the ground and used nylon rope to tightly tie the main portions of the garage to the rods. I had thought the weight of the garage itself would be enough to withstand the wind until I woke up one morning with my car naked and the garage in the back yard. Luckily it lifted off the car without hitting it!

Mine did the EXACT same thing, but landed ontop and between our roof and the neighbors. Didn't touch the car tho :)

Usually they come witha bunch of nice spikes that have a round "cup" like thing at the bottom that has a slit in it so it can be "screwed" into the ground. (mine was on cement tho so I found other ways of securing it. Now it's in a nice warm garage

I'd rather have those perpendicular like mentioned earlier. Just incase there's that chance that the car is pushed or leaned on and the rail ties roll. If you put them sideways, there's no way the car can roll onto somebody.

yea i am gonna do it perpendicular like everyones says, got 2 questions should i leave the car in neutral or 1st gear or it doesn't matter and should i take the little chip out of my greddy e-01

thanks

It's better to put it in 1st so it has less of a chance rolling back. Just don't start it in that gear when on jacks and stands.

How is putting it in first, when it's sitting on railroad ties, going to help it from rolling back. Especially when it doesn't even have the wheels/ties on?

I think you missed what i was trying to say..I am not worried about it falling it wont i tried rocking it,its solid, when i aksed what gear to put it in i mean whats good for like the tranny, sitting for 5 months? 1st or neutral or it doesnt matter

As for the car canopy thing. That one on E bay looks pretty good. It looks like it has five support braces. For a 16 foot canopy that is about one every 3 feet. That should be good for a reasonable amount of snow. Also only 8 feet wide. That is good for strength.
