So I got a pre-cut 35% tint kit on ebay and I've put on side windows and the tiny windows. Now I'm wondering what the stock tint on our cars is since I've been reading that you can't pass inspection in MA with anything less than 35%.

Each state is different in regards to window tint. If you read the disclaimer from the company you bought it from, I can almost guarentee it's say either for off road use only and/or illegal in some states.

You can buy 5% pre cut, doesn't mean you can pass with it or not have to worry about getting pulled over.

Our stock tint seems to be around 90 if there is even any tint at all.

Just a heads up

The company I bought it from has a chart about how 35% lets about 36% light transmittance. Since MA's tint law is NET 35% though, I don't know how much that stock % and 35% would add up. On our tiny rear windows, I can see the words "tinted" on the corner but not on the fronts.

is it possible to get replacement windows that have tinted glass (i.e. not film or spray-on)?

If there is any tint on our windows it's so little that it won't make a difference. Cops aren't that exact when they ticket you for tint. In PA they take advantage of any little thing in the law they can to make you remove tint like the fact that anything they feel inhibits their ability to see in the car is illegal. If it's anything like here and you really don't want to get pulled over for tint, either don't get tint or don't get anywhere close to the legal limit.

in arizona you could have all windows tinted to the max without any problems including the front windshield...!!... now here in sandiego (sheesh) you cant have the driver or passenger window tinted at all...!

it's pretty messed up how limos and busses can be totally opaque and it's more likely people are doing lines of coke or holding a gun to someone's head in a vehicle like that than the rest of the cars on the road.

Up here they have a little meter tool or something that they slide over the window to test the %.
But they are really strict on tint up here in Alaska, which is retarded for a place that DOESN'T get dark in the summer time.
I would just google your local tint laws and ask people you know with tint if they get harassed by the police.

I just don't get how stock 20% tint is legal but after-market 20% isn't. I can easily tint my dad's caravan windows 20% so it looks identical to factory tint but that will be "illegal". That's just dumb because it isn't "DOT approved" but it looks identical.

Well laws are laws and I'm sure the car manufactures have to follow guidelines with certain things as well for them to become "legal".

it's because the glass itself is darker, not an overlay of film. there are differences with glare and other things that are taken into account to make it DOT legal. it is stupid and these laws will never go away. people pay taxes that goes to roads, you should have privacy wherever you go.

haha I know!!! I've gotten 5 tint tickets in the last year. oh and as for the meter its a laser that records the exact amount of light shining through. 70% up front and 40% is the darkest you can legally go in alaska.

oh and if i were you I would just buy a few rolls from the store and learn how to do it yourself. its around 10 dollars a roll so even if you mess up its not expensive, and trust me, you WILL mess up the first few times. But once you get the hang of it is a 10 min process at the most.

that's crazy. anyone know if you can get replacement windows that are darker glass?

why? that would probably be much more expensive than tint even if you were to pay someone to do it for you

because they can hassle you all they want about it, it would be "factory" and therefore not removable.
