Hey guys, I am doing some upgrades to my car and I have been searching the forums on oil cooler locations. I am more aware of this now because I just picked up a garret 60 trim thats only oil cooled. My problem is that I have a big front mount intercooler and the intercooler piping runs through the drivers side where everyone seems to mount their aftermarket oil coolers. Right now my oil cooler is in the stock location behind the intercooler. Do you think if I installed a small slim line fan on the oil cooler it would provide adequate cooling? Also would I benefit from changing the stock lines to a bigger -AN line? Thanks

Using bigger -AN line might help with flow a little but if you want to keep it in the stock location a little fan on the back of the oil cooler is a great idea. I have seen them used many time on road racing cars. You can wire it into your cooling fans or run it off a 12V switch in the car to switch it on whenever the oil reaches a certain temp. if you have an oil temp. gauge. If it were me though, depending on the style of driving, I would get a whole new oil cooler kit and mount it in the front bumper by one of the vents. Unless you are using it for extreme autocross or road racing, your oil isn't really going to get that boiling hot.

yeah, I think I'm going to get a small fan and mount it on there. I was really thinking bout a new oil cooler setup, but I have no plans of refabbing new intercooler pipes.
