i want to replace the stock boost gauge. the problem is i don't want to put the aftermarket unit anywhere else but in place of where the boost gauge is. is this possible? has anyone ever done it before? the only problem i can think of is the unit being too big for the hole so there might be sum trimming.

also i really like the defi-vsd. but i dont want it to block my view on the windshield. nor do i want to avert my eyes to the center just to look at it. so i was thinking, would it be possible to mount it right in front of the instrument panel so then it reflects off the clear instrument shield? im sure there will be angle modifications in order for it to read off of the plastic but i hope not so much it'll be impractical.

I don't think you'd be able to put the boost gauge where the stock one is without hacking up the cluster (and maybe some of the area behind it). Plus, you would probably have to hack up the electrical board which may hinder some of the other gauges from working. Why don't you look into this? It is basically what you're asking for minus the custom modification work - http://www.hybridconnection.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=2269

And as for the VSD, are you talking about the physical unit blocking your view or the HUD? If you're talking about the unit, why not cut out part of your dash and make a custom mount with it sunk down in or flush? This way you have nothing in your way. If you're talking about the HUD, then doesn't that defeat the whole point of it?

If you're worried about seeing clearly through it, then why are you considering getting it? According to their site, they stopped production of the VSD. Plus, all it shows is speed and RPM's. If you like something like that, you could do a custom gauge cluster with digital gauges. I personally don't think the VSD would be that great of a thing though.

Wow. I was so bored I actually went outside to take some pics for you to see how convenient the autometer pod is. Here are some shots of mine:

As you can see, it's awesome. Not only that, but it's sporting a Defi D series boost gauge. I don't have another gauge in the other side of the pod, but the left is reserved for the EGT whenever I can afford it. I hope this helps you decide against hacking the circuit board that your factory gauges rest upon.

Ciao.

The above cluster pod is perfect if you want to keep low key. It too is what I recommend.

However, save yourself money and DONT buy the brand name. Buy it on ebay for less.

Just keep in mind, with that pod, gauge depth is limited, so make sure the gauges you plan to put in there is not so deep, or it won't look flushed, and almost odd.

What brand is that boost gauge? I am looking for gauges similar to stock, it looks real close. Sorry for the off topic post.
