2G stock 2g converter and 16G

I searched a little bit, but so far I only get a bunch of 1G threads or "my restalled converter..." threads.


Simple question, does the STOCK unmodified 2G Torque Converter stall up with a 16G? They're pretty tight in stock form, so I'm a bit worried that I'll install one, go to brake boost, and only build like 2-5psi. Anyone used a 16G on a stock 2G Auto drivetrain and can verify they stall up on a stock converter or will I need to go to a reflashed unit?

A long time ago, probably about 17 years ago, when I had basic mods running a 16G and SAFC, I stalled at about 2600rpm and boost was just shy of 5psi leaving the line. Ran a 13.7@105, but I'm fwd.

I'm actually having an IPT restalled converter being installed as we speak. Hoping to pick up the car in the next couple of days. But my current mods will not correlate to anything on your car so whatever I get when I test it probably won't pertain to your situation.

There is some good info on the 16g drag race thread if you haven't checked it out. Around page 6 Nate Chrisman(hope I didnt botch the name) goes auto and has relevant info. I'm on my phone or I would link it but you shouldn't have any trouble finding it.

Confirmed no boost leaks? And hows the tune look down when you're getting on the converter?

I know they have overall different height from 1g converters.

I checked it out, and his auto swap was for a 1G. I know that a 1G can stall up a 16G as my old one did it no sweat. However I'm worried about the 2G tight converter.

That's about what I thought is that the stock 2G converter will be just too tight. Sad to hear I won't be able to AWD launch without nitrous or a restall. Bleh.

No boost leak tests or tune logs, car doesn't run haha[yet]. I've just been thinking about upgrading the 14B on it now to a 16G since I'm throwing in a built trans, but tbh if it requires a restall just for a 16G..I'll just say screw it and go with an FP Big28 or something that I can actually stall up and launch with.
