im still trying to figure out what i should do before i start buying parts and slapping it on my gsx. i have the haynes and chilton's manuals and even the factory cd manual, but i havent had a lot of time to look through any of them. i figured advice from other experienced dsmers would be better.

so before i start slapping ish on my car, what should i absolutely do as far as a major maintenance tune up? this is what ive come up with so far:

timing belt
balance shaft belt
oil
oil filter
power steering fluid
tranny fluid
anything else?

i have no mechanical experience at all, so should i be fine doing all this stuff if i just refer to one of my manuals? thanks guys

oh ya... what is this balance shaft eliminator thing i keep hearing about? is it easy to do? and where can i find info about it or how to do it etc? thanks again.

Search here for BS removal procedures. It is not easy to do. You really need to remove the engine (although some people have done it when leaving the motor in). With no mechanical experience, don't try it. You might think about having a dealership do a complete checkout of the car before you start modding it. It costs less than $100, and they will check just about everything (make sure they check for crankshaft end-play)

This is a DSM, you will become a mechanic before too long. Welcome!
