Ok heres my story. I have an aftermarket radio(Pioneer). So I am driving to class, and listening to some random cd I had in my car. All of sudden I see a spark come from the face of my radio, and a little smoke appears; and radio shuts off. I automatically take off the face.

I am just a block from my school; so I park my car,and turn the car off. I take apart the radio off and see if there was burnt marking on the back, like I possibly I had forgot to tape a wire. I do not find anything. I believe something burnt internal. I don't think it is a fuse, because in my time I have never seen a fuse spark and smoke; but I could be wrong. I haven't checked the fuses, because I had ten minutes to get to class. I will check them out tomorrow in the morning and post back results then.

I am trying to figure out what happen here. I still have the old stock radio, but I don't want to put that radio on until I find out what happpen to this radio. Until the mean time I just unhooked the radio from its harness.

Can anyone tell me where to start looking for any problems??

a short occured somewere or u just altogether blew it just check all wires and look for contact and smell the inside of the headunit and see if it blew internally?

I just got out of classs about 3:30. I reexamined the wires the are no signs of contact anywhere. I smelled the inside of the unit it did smell as it burned internally. Should I try opening up the unit to see if something did burn internally??

SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME! Listening to music, and it just cut out, smoke came out. Found out I had ONE little part sticking out from the electrical tape and it grounded, then fried the Audio Out port. Luckily, it was still under warranty from Pioneer, and was covered free of charge by a local audio store. I would check the small fuse behind the radio, all connections are secure and not touching anything (or has copper sticking out) and check your ROOM fuse under the hood. It controls the radio as well and likes to blow.

Thanks. I was going to check the fuses, but I didn't have enough time to check because I had class. It's getting kind of dark out too, so I am going to check make sure no fuses blew.

Yeah, when I get home I am going to check with my sister to see, if she purchased the 4 year warranty at BEST BUY. She bought me the radio, because she felt bad, when they someone stole mine. So, when I get home hopefully I will find out that she indeed did get the warranty.
