Time for more paint for the engine bay. Removing the old peeling rusty stuff, priming it, and painting it. Pictures pretty much say it all. :)

First lets rewind all the way back to early summer of 2009. This is what my shock towers look liked.

Yuck.... :barf:

Mid summer 2009 I didnt know to much about painting so what the heck, lets sand and bondo it smooth.

Spray Bombed them real quick and they looked pretty good.

My non-clean engine bay of summer 2009.

Well this is what I ended up with fall of 2009. dont have a picture of the other side but it looked the same. (Not that much rust though)

Pulled it in for the 09-10 winter

And as many of you know, started my project (Check other blogs to see my interior restore and other stuff)

Well last week I stripped both stock towers entirely. On the drivers side I punched two small holes through where rust was (smaller than the diameter of a pen). :ohdamn: Took a breathe, grinded and cut out the rust. Welded the holes shut, grinded the welds smooth, and jb welded the uneven surfaces.

Didnt take a lot of pictures of that process, mainly because I was focused on doing the job right and not screwing up.

Here is a few days ago.

You can see on the drivers side where the jb weld is drying, thats where the previously infected area was.

Drivers side as of today (The original spot welds are there, the camera just didnt pick them up)

Painted. 2 coats if A52, and possibly 2 coats of clear this weekend. (Still drying)

In the mean time I got another JNZtuning order.

A/C clamp, strut tower nuts, Brake fluid resivour bracket, and a new coolant overflow bottle

Cool picture I like. :)

Valve cover cleared.

Sanding the letters.

Done!

And to think, all of this was done by me. A silly Jounier in High School. :hellyeah:

More coming soon!!! Comments are welcome! Lets see if I can get the same amount of comments to views!

Thanks everyone!

Steve

Are you using actual automotive paint or just rattle can? If so what are you using to spray it, compressor, nozel, pressure. This is the kind of thing I would like to do to my car.Progress looks great keep it up!

Looks very good man. I used the factory paint but in a rattle can from some online company and was very surprised as to how accurate it was.

Oh and way to copy me on the new inner fenders!!!! LOL j/k

Gonna be a whole new car.

Very Nice and it looks great, It's good to see someone in H.S. taking so much pride in their work, keep it up man.

Props to you man...nice and clean work...I admire your passion

I'll be checking out your progress

U have given me courage to paint my engine bay now.......... lookin good man can't wait to see the before and after pics side by side

Good work, I am Senior in Highschool, and I'm actually preparing my engine bay for the exact same clean up! good work dude!

+1 :applause:

Drivers side is being finished up, might go ahead and paint it today. The passengerside is all done. Paint looks "wet". Just one coat of clear too! :) I really like it.

4 days until it comes out!!!!!!!

im doing is same thing this summer!!! and also im a jr in highschool too... good to see a fellow highschool student doing what i want to do... im a fallower of your blog

Man I have a 2g and my rust problem was like 10 times worse! You are lucky!!! I used a paint called POR15 on mine. I did it about 4 years ago and havent had rust since. It dosent even require you to remove all the rust. Their site is here. It worked really well for me and was easy to use. Just be careful and wear gloves if you try it!!! The paint will go into your skin and stay there for for ever! I know because I did it :(
