steering wheel play

My steering wheel does not return to center when I come out of a bend. The car will be going straight down the road but the wheel will still be turned. It also has about 1/2 inch of in an out play. Lastly the wheel moves when I hit bumps in the road. what could this be?

If your steering wheel is off center, take the car to an alignment shop and they'll be able to fix it for you. It's a common problem in all cars and is an easy fix.

Loose power steering rack mount bushings.

OR

Toe will affect your steering wheel as well, lastly Bent suspension components....been hitting pot holes lately?

Its not allignment because its not consistant. It goes back and forth between sides. Ill come out of a right hand turn and the wheel will be turned to the right when I come out of it and to the left with a lefthand turn. Its not every turn either. just really tight turns or on a bumpy road. Thats why its strange. It may be the bushings. I was thinking something in the rack.
