So i just picked up my first motor. im gonna rebuild and drop it in my 95 gsx. i need to know what all im gonna need to make it complete.just bottom end stuff i know what goes on top. i got a 98gsx block with just crank, pistons, and rods and oil pan, thats it. although it looks like the whole side of the block is blank like its missing a bunch of stuff. could anyone please let me know what i need to get this thing rolling

thanks

Post some pics of what you have to work with.

Figure a budget, and a HP goal.

Just do not plan on building a 800hp engine for $1000

I will first say I have no clue what sensors and what not go on your block because I really dont know. What I do want to suggest to you is to go buy a Haynes/chilton manual and that should have everything you need to know. Again, my apologies its not the exact answer.

i obviously dont think that come on now LOL im from cali we have one of the biggest import scenes around, speaking of cali we also have alot of smog restrictions so i would like it to be a somewhat daily driver i was think like 400-450 im running 350 on my gsx right now. and budget is not really an issue,

heres what i have

Well get that block cleaned and decked to start with, check the condition of crank if your shooting for 400-450hp you might want to upgrade pistons and rods you could keep the stock crank tho use arp all around and good bearings, your are missing the front case there too.

My suggestion on a first build would be have someone trained show you how so you do not end up building it again. First hand bad experience here. It's not rediculously complicated and it will run, but a engine that last takes alot more attention to detail and the tools to make the measurements needed to ensure it will be good.

It is not the first time that engine has been gone through.

The BSE has been done (The freeze plug in the front of the block)

Aftermarket freeze plugs.

Before you pull the crank, measure the end play.

When you pull the crank and rods, look at the back of the bearings, some will have the size stamped in them.

Also check the tops of the pistons for a stamp for the size.

When you look at the rods, look at the caps around the crank, are any blue/black in color? They should be a nice even golden color.

You are missing a few parts for sure, the rear main seal plate, water pump, front case and pick up screen, front mount and tenstioner arm assembly.

So i should take it apart? i would have someone help me but i honestly dont know anyone i have a service manual. the guy i bought it from said to just send it to the machine shop just like that, i thought it sounded kinda wired when he said, thanks for all the help is there anything else i should be looking for or checking while taking this apart. i was thinking of getting the crank knife edged cut or should i just get it reconditioned?

ok so should i take it apart or no cause you all are confusing me its not my first time working on engines, i was just told one thing and now another so will someone please point me in the right direction please.
thank you

Unless you have all the special tools to check all of the specs for the cylinders and crank take it to a machine shop. You need need to find out of the cylinders have been bored and if the crank has been cut. After that you will know what size parts to get like pistons, rod, main bearings. Along with whatever else is missing from the block like bogus said.

its completely oem i was told nothing has been done to it he pulled it out of a running car and was gonna make it a high hp motor but just decided to buy a create motor instead
