starter question

took my intake off the other day and I noticed my starter has a green wire that is not connected... still starts but was wondering if it should normally be connected. also was is the plug under the intake that looks like a sensor... it looks melted on the back.. thanks guys

I'm not sure about the green starter wire but the melted sensor is your knock sensor leaking goo, it needs to be replaced, when this happens they are no good.

That's not necessarily true. The goo is a protective polymer and will disbond after many heat cycles. It doesn't necessarily mean the sensor will read improperly.

Well I might as well replace it since I'm right there... Is it hard or any tricks to it?

Nope, unplug the connector and use a wrench to loosen. Torque the new sensor to factory spec, very important.

Well if the knock was bad you would notice by the timing being retarded when it shouldn't be right?
