so my starter keeps grinding..why is this ? ?

ive had 3 starters in this car within 2 days and they all keep grinding..

they are bolted up tight..the ground is hooked up to the tranny and the battery posts are tight...

what else could be the problem ? ?

You mean click or grind.

If it is grinding you have a dead spot on the flywheel. Inspect the flywheel by looking in the hole where the starter is and have a buddy turn the crank with a half inch breaker bar or something from the front of the motor so you can watch for ground down teeth.

Only way to fix that is replace the flywheel, if that is not the case you may need to shim the starter but it usually isn't that with these cars

it grinds..also i did check the flywheel..no teeth are chipped or missing..maybe i just keep getting bad starters ?

I have to say it, sorry. When it starts, quit cranking :)

The only way for a starter to grind is, it's slipping off the teeth of the flywheel, or it gets cranked over after the car is started. I've never heard of it grinding for any other reason.

Look at the teeth of the starter if they are chewed up your flywheel is also chewed up and you missed something when inspecting it. I will bet the ranch there is nicked teeth on that flywheel.

Or your mixing up the grinding with buzzing. Because it is possible to wire a starter up where it will pop the gear forward but not spin it. That will also make a buzzing noise as it is popped out. You may be missing a wire or are getting the wrong starter.

did you verify that its really the corect starter ?
look at the depth of the nose's
a starter for a a/t has a shallower nose then a m/t
They bolt will bolt up and sort of work - but the wrong one will grind big time.

(my experience.) *The plate that is sandwiched between your transmission and block*

Do you have one? not having can cause this, because one of the two starter bolts can sit just a Lill off, and this causes your starter to get pushed out slightly . * it's just another possibility .

Also having the wrong Generation "gasket"/plate" could also cause the same.

Basically that plate guides the bolts if perfect synchronization with that flywheel.
