Now that the weather is getting warmer I need to work on a couple problems.

The big one being that the starter is grinding.

I was talked into replacing my starter and now the new one grinds on the flywheel.

It's an ACT flywheel and I never had a problem after I installed the new clutch and flywheel with the origional starter.

Then a shop puts in a starter, I bought a re-maned one, and now it grinds. I replaced it under wrranty and it next starter also grinds.

The shop told me I shouldn't have bought a re-man because they are junk..... has anyone else had a problem with re-maned starters?

Is there any chance that the flywheel is still ok or is the teeth most likely damaged?

If it started (no pun intended) right after a different starter was put in then I would suspect that it is not the correct one. I'm not sure but there may be a slight difference between FWD and AWD starters. Maybe something to look into or someone else who knows for sure can chime in.

You can visually inspect the ring gear by removing the bell housing cover located between the oil pan and bell housing. It is held on by 3 10mm bolts and one 12mm bolt (these are the bolt head sizes). You will be able to see the bottom half of the flywheel.

But from what you're describing it seems like the shop that did the work should be responsible for getting it right.
