OK well heres w2hat I've got for you. i recently bought an "xtd" clutch and 11 lb flywheel. got it all installed and now the starter is grinding on the flywheel when the engine cranks up. i thought OK maybe i got the starter binded but no it goes in smooth and feels good all the way so then i think maybe a bad starter so go to my local parts store and get a refurbished one but still the same noise? so could this be a bad flywheel or what. please let me know what you think soon cause i am about to call the company that i bought the flywheel off of see if i cannot get my money back. :dsm:

well i fixed the starter grinding on the flywheel, just added washers between the tranny and the starter so it pulled the starter teeth outta the flywheel. however i have a new problem now. when the clutch warms up and i start to get boost it slips and i think i was in second gear and got to about 5000 rpm i heard a rattle and then clutch slipped. i am starting to think that all the hipe about this "xtd" clutch is bullsh**. however i am gonna let the dealer look at it and see what they can do maybe it is something that i have done

:dsm:

I got the same clutch...when I take off and jump up to higher RPMs it makes this awful noise..like a crunching sound...I have no clue on whats causing it but I do know its coming from the tranny..

I am gonna play 20 questions with you guys on this problem.

1. Did you clean the flywheel with brake cleaner or what not, before installing?
2. Did you guys install new throw-out bearings?
3. Did you guys allow the clutch and flywheel the proper amount of break in, before beating on them?
4. Who installed them? and where the proper torque settings on the bolts done?

if you didn't allow for proper break in, you might have scorched the flywheel, which causes hard spots=slip'age.
also if you had greasy finger prints on it, the above can happen too.
if you have the wrong throw-out bearing, it will bend the fingers on the clutch / not allow the right amount of movement.
if they are not torque right, the bolts can back out and cause the clutch to pull away = slip'age.

and finally, that little plate between the trans and starter is to help prevent corrosion between the alum. and steel parts, it is only about 1/8th inch thick if that.

also what lbs clutch is it / are they?

Slapnut: I disagree with your break in points. I have an ACT 2600 (street disk) and it was broken in the proper way- whaling on it. :p Most of the fast guys around here break their clutches in doing tuning pulls, or on the dyno or racetrack. I don't know anyone who will baby the car for 500 miles. ;) Oh, and after 25k miles of abuse, my clutch still holds like a mofo. Though, I guess that a lesser quality clutch might not survive it. I don't know.

Are the XTD clutches the ones that were discussed in another thread as being ebay knock offs?

The guy in the 2nd post says their flywheels dont fit. I dont know why people buy these things over the many competitively priced and proven combinations out there. I googled XTD Clutches and found nothing too spectacular. All I found was a few ebay auctions and some forum chatter.

everything was done according to the manuel....from torque, to insallation.....i think its just a shitty flywheel...i dunno.....but like i said, the cluth kit itself has an excellent hold.

Why you should stick to proven and Approved Clutchs/Flywheels, no offence I love to have an extra couple hundred in my pocket, but in the end its not gunna be good, Stick to act clutch/flywheel or fidanza, they approved for the track and have been well tested by alot of dsmers. I also read somwhere that they made there flywheels 2mms oversized??? somone wasnt doing there hw. If your gunna buy cheap stuff just get it for easy jobs and not ## tranny...LOL not exatly the fastest fix! Anyway good luck and hope you can fix it:|
