Starter grind!!! Need Help

As always I searched before I am posting this......

My starter started to sound different and grind after I had a overheat on the highway like 4 months ago....The car will always start, but the grinding keeps getting worse.....I would like to see my options and also hear opinions from DSM enthusiasts and Wisemen.

Thanks for the help. Btw, this is a rebuilt alt, rebuilt by a local shop who is very reputable. I will try to take it out and inspect tomorrow if it does not rain.

It could be a few things.

My first guess is that your transmission bolts are loose, or your case is cracked, and as you push down the clutch, it moves the bellhousing away from the flywheel, along with the starter, and grinds on the flywheel.

Second guess is that your flywheel is absolutely destroyed, please stop doing that, you're only making things worse!

Third is that your starter is absolutely destroyed.


Check all of the above.

Are your starter bolts IN all the way?

How about the trans bolts?

Ok I appreciate the tips. I will take her to my boys shop tomorrow and check it out. Whats the easiest way to remove and check? last time I did it I was removing tranny bell housing...

Ok guys. It turns out my starter was toasted. the housing, the bushing, all of it. Toast. I got another one and put it in and BAM. What do you think happens? It works!!! Thanks all.
