I have a 1992 GSX and I have bought a brand new starter from NAPA. I bought a brand new Optima the Yellow top. I have relocated the battery in the trunk with a Rockford 200 AMP circuit breaker and using a 0 Rockford gauge wire.

The Issue, when I turn the key to start the car I get the effect of when the battery is dead "CHK CHK". keep turn the key and then the starter will catch on and it turns about twice or three times and on the fourth one the starter dies. Keep doing it for two sets of cranking the circuit breaker Brakes and I have to rest the breaker every time. I have removed the starter twice for a bench check and both times checked fine.

Yesterday I put a wisher between the starter and and bell-housing, where the 14mm bolts sits and car was cranking, today the car again did the same thing that has been doing. I have no clue what is going on.

Could be the flywheel is going bad or it is bad, because it did the same thing with old starter so I figured the starter is bad in the first place, so I replaced it :banghead:

Now when I start the car there is grinding/ cracking sound coming from the starter area. Please someone help me. Thank you.

Here is a Videos of the problem

Based on what you have said, it could be the flywheel, and the starter not disengaging from the flywheel could be what is causing the sound that you hear now. So I would check the flywheel for any damaged teeth.

Did you try to turn the crankshaft with a wrench and trying to see if it will crank then?

That is what I have thought two days ago. I thought there is something stuck in the engine, I removed the spark plugs and it did turn without any problem.
Again it was turning like normal yesterday when I insert the washer between, but today it did the same thing today.

There might be a bad spot in the flywheel. That's why I was suggesting turning the crankshaft to see if it will crank then.

I have a AEM Twin fire with a 300m COP. Every thing was done by me and my buddy Tommy at JRPonline here in MD suggested that my mechanical, or electrical timing is way off. I found that both of the trigger wires are backward but without using the AEM unit. now I am going to hook up the AEM unit into the equation and see the outcome. thank you guys for you help.

I bought a brand new starter from napa and it didn't kick out and engage like it should, it just spun. Turned out to be defective so I got another and it worked fine.

That what I have thought but now it is working fine, my COP was wired completely wrong. it was firing when the pistons down instate of on top and when it is in the exhaust cycle.
