so I had a blown headgasket on my eclipse and decided when i took it off to go ahead and clean it up really nice and replace the valves and lash adjusters and replace all the head bolts, now when I go to start it I have no spark it seems, my main question is, If something happened and the timing is way off (which i'm pretty sure it isn't) would that cause the crank and or camshaft sensors to misread and not send the signal to ignition coil to spark? I know for a fact I have fuel and compression that has all been tested. Also just to give some history one day about a year ago I went to start the car and it had a really low idle and would almost cut off but then rev way up and then go back to normal about 5 mins after the initial startup and i've just let it do that since then, and when I did my engine rebuild all i did was unplug and replug everything in, i'm not seeing what has changed so much that I don't have spark....thanks for any help guys.

check your timing

did you make sure everything is in properly. if something is loose or not in it could cause the computer to mis read and does the engine turn over?

Why don't you physically check to see if you have no spark? "It seems like it has no spark" isn't a good enough diagnosis. You need to actually check if you have any.

sorry, I use the phrase "it seems" quite often LOL....I have physically checked and there is no spark at all, also as for the bent valves from the other suggestion; wouldn't that make my compression almost non existent? i'm getting normal levels of compression on all 4 cylinders, i'm going to take my dmm to it tomorrow and see if I can't find a bad crank or cam sensor possibly or a bad asd relay, as long as my ecu isn't fried and i don't have to pull it and repair it i'll be happy...thanks for the suggestions guys!

Check all your fuses and your cas. Usually when u do a rebuild it hard to start and u'll run into problems! Did u replace your plugs?

no sir I did not, had just put new bosch ones in recently, at first I thought that could be a possible problem but then realized I have no spark at the coil pack, i'm gonna delve into the electrical stuff tomorrow if I can get to it.

ok I see what you are saying now, so in order to set my timing over again how do i start from scratch and just set the cams up for tdc? I have seen several how to's that say intake dowel down exhaust dowel up ( or maybe vice versa, can't remember) but isn't that kind of vague? how does one know if the dowel is facing directly up and not 5degrees off? thanks for your help so far!, and yes I do realize I have more than likely bent valves in timing it incorrectly before anybody says anything haha

ok scratch the part about timing it to tdc I see the marks on the cam gears now, however in the tutorial I read there is supposedly two marks on one cam gear and only 1 on the other cam gear and if I flip these one will be 180degrees off but I only see one mark on each cam gear, kinda confused right now...
