Starion intercooler [Merged 9-7] FMIC front mount conquest

Starion FMIC wouldn't be worth ur time. Do the Supra SMIC go to local junk yards and look around Ebay has them all the time for like $100. They are huge compared to your stock SMIC and you would definatly benifit from this.

that's wierd the galant on the featured page has a modded Starion fmic
and he pulls a 12.887 @ 106.620 mph with a 16g. I am not saying that it's a great intercooler but it works and your not spending a shit load of cash for a intercooler that you wouldn't run near it's limits.

fmic's are great, and look nice, but going through the trouble of making the starion i/c fit isn't worth the time or money, (exhaust shop has to customize it a bit and while your there you might as well get the endtanks opened up a bit, i think they're 1.75" stock= not enough.) You'll spend at least 50 to 80 bucks getting that work done. If you can do the work yourself on the starion i/c I'd say go for it, but exhaust shops aren't cheap (around here anyway) You'll spend at least 50 to 80 bucks getting that work done. Just buy a supra smic, then go with a good fmic after you save some cash. My supra i/c was very easy to install.

Hey guys I just got a Starion for my 1G dsm. Now I need to figure out how to install this thing. I need to know what people have doen to make it work. What type of piping, how/where you mounted it. IF you have any info or any sites please post here

Chris

i dont have any first hand experiences with it but people say that the endtanks are small. If u can modify them then its a good FMIC. Hope that helps.

I considered this mod too but was warned against it. I don't remember the specifics but the newer i/c's flow better than the starion ones. A much better mod would be a 496ci supra mkIV sidemount. Thats what i did, or pony up and buy a real frontmount.

Crap. Absolute crap. Search around here for more thurough answers.

Save your money and buy a Mk IV Supra sidemount, or a real intercooler.

The starion IC sucks. IF you are going to run some sort of t3/t4 which you should specify what kind of t3/t4, you should really get a decent FMIC for the best performance. The stock SMIC or starion is not going to cut it.

now if i got the supra sidmount would that pretty much bolt up in the same spot? and roughly how much hp could i run safely? thanks

Ok I know its not the best intercooler but right now I have a 1g ic in place, and its working fine now. I was wondering, for anyone who has experience with them, would a starion fmic with hard ic pipes, bov, cat back, and mbc set at 15; cool and flow enough for a t25 and a short while on a big t28 killer. I need to upgrade and Im not too rich..so its this or my decrepit 1g that was made when I was in 1st grade. thank you

Go Supra SMIC, unless you put new endtanks on the Starquest. Flows a whole lot more.

the starion flows more than I 1g? I know it has to cool better being in the front and not on the puny side mount hole. So would it be worth it? The whole Idea is to get away from sidemount because the hole is way too small.

The hole isn't really TOO BIG of a problem, as long as the IC can flow alot of air. A Starquest mounted up front will still not cool as well as a Supra SMIC. FWIW, I run a Supra SMIC with my 20g :) Doesn't heatsoak until it is repeatedly abused.

will the starion fmic handle a 16g @19psi ?

Not on pump gas. When I had a starion on my car I could run about 17psi max on pump with little knock. Any more and the knock counts get a bit high. On 110 octane 21-22 psi was alright. It was way better than the stock gvr4 ic though and helped me get down to a 12.8. The inlet and outlet were increased to 2.25" also which helps it to flow much better. Last week I upgraded my ic core to a Greddy large 2g with custom fabbed entanks to fit my car and will see at the next race how much of a gain it has over the starion. Now I can run 19psi with little to no knock on pump so I know it's working much better. And the butt dyno says it's pulling harder too.

i recently aquired a starion fmic, i'm going to end new inlet and outlet tubes on it. would it be ok to use 2 inch inlet and a 2.5 inch outlet??? is this a bad idea?? does it hurt flow somehow?? ahs anyone done this? if this is a bad idea what sizes should i get put on? thanks alot
Ryan

If your going to keep the stock turbo then use 2.25" direct from the 14b (or even 16g is fine) to the intercooler. if your going bigger, 20g, 50trim, big hybrid...etc, then use 2.5"

well my real question is if i can run 2 different sizes of pipe from one side of the intercooler, will it mess up flow or anythin>? thanks guys
Ryan

not at all....its fine to run the smaller size to the intercooler as the warmer the air the less diameter it really needs. However I wouldnt run anything less that 2.25" if it was mine...
