Starion intercooler [Merged 9-7] FMIC front mount conquest

Friend of mine bought the intercooler from a guy for $200, and now he doesnt need it cause he's gonna get a greddy one so he's selling it to me for $150 (already pressure tested).

Starion front mounts are crap.... they barely flow better than stock... If your just getting it cuz its a "front mount", then get it, but ur not gonna see any differences. If you are really concerned about performance and going the cheap way for now, get a supra side mount.

That looks awful. The starion Intercooler is a waste of money IMO.

That does look awful. It's got to be the smallest FMIC I have ever seen. It might fit behind the 98-99 front better. Don't buy cheap parts, you won't be happy with them. Its always best to save up and buy the best or close to it.

I've heard that they flow like crap and I've heard that they flow the same as the stock SMIC. I was wondering if anyone has done this to a 95-96. I've read how to do it on the 97-99. In this install they relocated the inlet to the bottom of the endtank. Is this neccesary? Also, can anyone tell me some basic piping plans. I am looking to fab it all up myself. Any information would be appreciated.

I originally wanted to do the MKIV SMIC but a friend of mine did it, and it was a real PITA. Plus, i have the 95-96 fascia so it won't fit properly and the sidemarker wouldn't fit in. I would love a bigger FMIC, but i can't afford one. My stock SMIC is busted and i could just get another but i'd love to have a front mount. We all know that no matter the size, a FMIC is hot.

The MKIV SMIC does require some custom fabb'n, but if your not afraid to get your hands a lil' dirty, then its a piece-o-cake. Resort to www.vfaq.com , there is a step by step install of install on a 2G (hopefully the link still works or the page isnt down).

m'eh.. it's not that bad. Just open up the inlet and outlet to 2.25 and it flows pretty nicely. I'm not looking for any major gains, really. I just need an IC and I think that a FMIC looks so sweet. Is there anyone out there willing to give me tips, and not just flame the idea?

Yea, the Starion is not so bad if you get rid of the wee little IC pipes coming off of it....but in all honesty, I'd get a Supra SMIC. Its a great and cheap base for modding.

A Starion FMIC will require the price of the FMIC plus about $100 for tigging and fabbing new IC pipes. By that time you could almost have a nice Spearco off E-Bay.

I wassnt flaming you or your idea. I was helping you by letting you know a Supra SMIC flows more than a Starion FMIC. Obviously looks are more important to you, so get less flow and go with the Starion. You ask for help and advise, and I gave it to you. People are telling you for the most part to not go the Starion as well, what does that tell you? If you want the look of an FMIC, save up and get one thats more functional and looks better anyways (you get what you pay for). If you want to go with the Starion because it looks cool, then dont ask if it flows like crap, everyone tells you not to go with it, then still go with it. Do what you want, but dont just blow off good tech info that you asked for.

yes it is better....but everone will tell u it aint the best this unless u get it for a great price or free. I got one for 20 bucks and Im going to use it.
