I was looking at maybe getting the SSautochrome header...

is it worth it?

And yes going for high HP...T4E type high hp..

from what ive heard with ssautochrome is that their tubular headers are SS but their flanges are made of a different metal. the 2 combined.. i guess dont last to long so they crack. this is only what i have heard, correct me if I am wrong.

I don't want to play the "well i heard from a guy" game or anything, but yes, as nuggets said, that's a lot of what's been discussed on this item, and company in general. I as well don't want to be the jerk that says "do a search" or "not this again..." but go ahead and do a search. there have been no less than 3 discussions about this SPECIFIC item. Good luck. Some people have an OK time with theirs. I think it's one of those luck of the draw items. Go with a more reputable company would be my advice. SBR or turbonetics etc. just a little more expensive, but way more reliable.

They're total crap. Somewhere there is a website dedicated to just how crappy they are. I suggest you look at that. It takes a very in depth look at the craftsmanship and material choice for this manifold.

Like everyone says they are crap, I mean there all over ebay. If you wanna do it right the first time go with the manifolds from DNperformance.com

my friend had one... the equal length headers for a 14b/16g... first off it was NOT bolt on... he had to heat his oil feed and return and water feed/return lines and stretch them and bend them so that the turbo was positioned accordingly.. he lost his ac fan, had to cut and reweld his downpipe and his turbo outlet pipe... im not sure if its the same for the t3/t4 flanged headers..... also the "chrome" finish lasted all of a day until it got hot and turned purple/gray.... i do say that they are larger runners than the cast manifolds and he does get really fast spoolup and i havent seen any cracks yet, but all the work he had to do to get them on was a pain in the a$$.... if they are bolt on for t3/t4 hey try em out... they might not crack on ya.... but welds between two different kinds of metals (Flange and piping) are never the strongest and expect some cracking eventually....

The SS manifold will crack on you. I had one on each my DSM and EVO. No good  ! Get yourself a custom or OEM that is ported. :thumb:

 is that a dsm???

SSAutochrome uses two different types of metal in the fabrication of their exhaust manifold. It may look 'blingin' when you first get it, but they will fail fairly quickly. Since the metals are different, the rate of expansion in each are also different when they are heated up. Eventually, it will lead to premature failure.

I have one that I never installed also because of the cracking issues I hear about with tubular manifolds. It's a really nice piece and definitly looks good in the engine bay, however I bought the sbr cast manifold and just used that. I'll sell it to ya for cheap if you want to give it a shot still ... it's just sitting in my garage and has never had exhaust flow through it.

I had that site that everybody is saying on my favorites, but can't find it...anyhow, I had that header my self, and it cracked on me like in 2 weeks...they have this "REINFORCEMENTS" from the flange to the runners and right there, where the thing is welded to the runner, startet cracking...2 days later the crack was like 2" long...I also have 2 more friends with that POS and one is cracked also but on the runner #1 weld...the other one, he has it on a mirage, with solid engine mounts, and the damn header has been there since they were released...and it's holding fine...but he removed the reinforcements before using it....so who knows...my opinion, don't buy cheap things...you mod chep, you mod twice...and I say it by experience

what are some good and decently priced log type manifolds that fit a T3?

If I ever get a t3 manifold, I'll get the turbonetics one...it's cast iron...btw...I've heard some cracking also but not as frequent as a tubular header

I found one I am going to go with.
I cannot go with the "standard" DSM manifold because I am a RWD swap '63... and the stock placement is just too close to the strut tower.

I wonder if the evo8 manifold fit's our head...it puts the turbo more towards cyl. #1-2 instead of 3-4 like ours, if so, you could find a t3 manny for evo8 and test it, but if you already found one, good luck with the proyect ;)

haha... I bet that little honda motor had a hell of a time spooling up that holset, especially with the Huge stock turbine housing!

where did you get that pic from?

HAHAHAHA i laughed my ass off when i saw that pic. Just picturing the guys face when he first saw that. Sux ass to see that happen to some though. Looking at the material and the thickness is a pretty damn good indicator of how well built it is.

In all honesty from what i have seen if you want a bling mani for your stock turbo then they are ok, still might crack but the second you put some weight on it they are done son. :thumbdown

There is another pic that was posted in this forum before that looked like the damn thing exploded.

I do feel sorry for that guy (honda guy).

The tri-pod post/link was also a ss autochrome HONDA manifold.
Alot of poeple post bad remarks on ssautochrome mani's wich to be honest with you would never be seen on a dsm.

My ssautochrome manifold is great and havent had anything bad to say except the bling doesnt last very long at all and I had to port match the exhaust housing flange to match the turbo flange "7cm".

The manifold did place my turbo in an akward position but I really dont mind at all.
I have both a stainless feed and drain oil lines so that wasnt a problem for me.

The design in my opinion is great with two runners being short and direct while the other two curve over top and then they meet.

I bought my mani from www.koumotorsports.com so you can take a look at it their.

The manifold in question (mine) came with a support bracket for every runner and two for the collector area.

Maybe all thease manifolds that have failed have only been honda mani's I realy dont know. All I do know is my mani saw some minus 25 degree weather with ice and the whole shebange and didnt crack at all. So is it me or do most of the poeple whom have commented and I mean most ie 80 % dont own this manifold.

P.s take a good look at every other manifold manufacturer they almost all use mild steel to stainless steel.

Not every manifold uses's stainless to stainless .

Point being I own this very same mani http://www.koumotorsports.com/new_products.html
9 picks down and take a look ,and I havent had a problem with it Is it the luck of the draw I really dont think so , but could the quality vary from mani to mani over at ssautochrome ? well I dont doubt that.

P.s My mani dropped my spool time about 200 rpm and it weighs less then the cast ,hmm maybe it was a good buy after all?

I found a much better manifold for my RWD application thanks...
