I am working on a 96 spyder non turbo.

The automatic in it went bad so I put in a standard tranny from a 96 GST parts car we have.

I used the 7 bolt flywheel and the plate that bolts to the engine so the starter lines up right.

THe starter is working fine but its not getting to the flywheel for some reason. Everything worked in the gst I took it out of.

I have taken the starter off to make sure its working right. I even tried a different one.

Am I missing something?

Is the tranny, starter, and flywheel all out of a previously working car? Or did you end up with a awd smaller flywheel that won't engage?

auto vs. manual starters are different in 2gs as well.

I think he is talking about the starter plate, the one that bolt to the block with the 2 10 mm bolts. thats sandwiched between the engine and trans.

As said before, AWD and FWD flywheels are NOT the same. The AWD is smaller and wont allow the starter to properly engage the flywheel.

The plate im refering to is what lines the starter up right. I had to change it because the starter bolt holes didnt line up.

Now that I think about it the flywheel is from a awd.

So I have it firgured out I guess.

Thanks for the fast responces.

:sneaky:So was my post helpful :sneaky:

Yes, thank you and cookmeup272 for the info. Im still new to the DSM stuff.

I dont have any fwd 7 bolt flywheels so it looks like I will be buying a new one. After I pull the engine and tranny again.:(
