ok so my car has bad sputtering and shitty idle. It happens right when i start the car and stays throughout once the engine is hot. My RPMs fall to zero when i am stopped in drive or neutral (auto trans) and just dance around zero ( the car does not stall/die.

The other day i stopped at the bank for five minutes and when i came back to the car it wouldn't start. Definitely wasn't a battery issue or anything, it seemed like it was starting for a split second and dying right away. I just waited a few minutes and started her timing my foot on the gas.

It's at the point where I know I shouldn't drive the car anymore. Unfortunately I NEED to work to support my family and this is my only means of transportation. I have today and tomorrow off to solve the problem, any thoughts/remedies? I'm pretty sure it seems like an IAC problem, but I just wanted to get any other insight first, also if you think IAC how difficult is it to change. I'm generally ok with cars (Had this one for a year and i've done general things ie: plugs wires radiator/heater hoses etc) but I'm not trying to get crazy into it. If its too complicated or hard to reach, I'll buy parts and pay someone to do it.

Please, any thoughts/criticism/insults I'll take it. Im all ears! :D

He has a non turbo car.....
I had the same problem. I suggest you check for vacuum leaks and if non are present then replace your TPS sensor and remaining sensors on the throttle body and Intake manifold. It turned out to be my TPS but i took the long way around replacing the ECU and all this other stuff. Hope this helps

Wow.. We'll just pretend that didn't happen

not to thread jack but i am experiencing something similar i recently replaced my iac sensor but still have issues when i hit 2500 rpms it seems to fall on its face then when when it hits 3k its ok any suggestions?

could be your EGR valve leaking air. I had one that leaked at the base and caused horrible Idle. There is a simple zero $ test for this. Spray water around the EGR valve base as the car is warming up. If the Idle changes when sprayed, you got a leak.

This test doesn't check if the EGR valve is working properly-only for leaking base.

I would say that sounds like a vacuum leak. If thats not the issue you can try and check your o2 sensor. its probably not the same on a n/t but my car had serious idling issues. I noticed one day that i had a universal o2 sensor, changed it and fixed my idling issues
