Great write up, and geat job! :thumb: Fast DSM! Gook luck in the races to come. Im looking forward to hear more heart pounding, adrelline rushing stories :rocks: ! If you ever need a server for some video footage I've got a server with plenty of space ;) .

We had a brand new digital in-car cam the whole weekend and it took absolutely nothing? I was a little upset..............but with so many things going on at the same time you're bound to screw something up. NEXT RACE FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
Greg

Haha, nice... I should have taken it out of the car and reviewed the tape to make sure it was working... Oh well.

It wasn't you fault Mr. Gray...you had your hands full just keeping the car ideling and pumping that DSM horsepower! ROFL

Yeah I was busily trying to keep you from becoming a hood ornament for those Porsches... Considering their tool dolly cost more than your whole car, you did awesome!

That's quite a compliment coming from you! It's makes me want to push that much harder at the next race...........................

Greg,

What brake setup were you running before the Stoptechs? Just curious because I have been looking at BBKs and the Stoptechs are sort of pricey, but if their performance justifies the added cost, I could save a little longer.

Thank you also for the write up and the pics are awesome. Glad to see the DSM handing it to the Euro cars.

SAVE!! I MEAN SAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was running the RRE Big Brake system which was good. B U T!! The Stop Tech's are absolutely incredible! When I was braking from 110 MPH down to 30, I had to start braking around 50-60 feet. Now it's an incredible let's say, (25 feet). The yellow 911 Porsche guy came up to me at the end of the race and said it seemed like forever before I braked. He said he waited and waited and waited for my brake lights to come on but they didn't until he thought the last possible second. It was so cool! It turns out I destoryed 5 maybe 6 brand new Hoosiers in my crash course of learning the Stop Tech's. But it was well worth it. In road racing brakes are just as important as horsepower maybe even more. I sound like a Stop Tech commercial but, man they're sooooo incredible. I should have had them a long time ago. Thank you Vivid Racing (One of my sponsors)

GREAT write up Greg, I really enjoyed it. Cant wait to follow you this season of NASA. Keep up the good work. Where are you guys heading next ?

Ok, it's been a week since the race and the smoke from my flat spotted tires (5 is the total count) has cleared, so it's time for some Thank you-s. First to my sponsors, for without their passion for racing I would never have been able to beat that dam yellow Porsche. A special thanks to Ludachris (a bigger DSM lover than me) for creating and constantly growing one of the best web sites in the nation. Scot Gray, for his relentless tuning of the car so I never became a hood ornament on those "Rolex" Porsches. Tom Dixon, (my friend and fellow Laser racer) for his constant support and assistance in winning last years championship and a good start on this years. My son Joshua for his, "whatever I can do Dad", positive attitude. My wife Kathy, (my crew chief) for picking up all the pieces and doing whatever is necessary to keep me focused. And a Big Thank you to all the DSMtuners for your kind words of encouragement and support, and your commitment to your own Diamond Star Motors!

4G63 FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're racing at Buttonwillow Race Park April 9th and 10th. It's a facility originally built and maintained by the SCCA near Bakersfield CA. It's one of my favorite tracks with lots of configuations. Some races we run counter clockwise and it seems like a completely different track. There's a long sweeper so speeds can get up to 150-160 MPH. At the end of the sweeper there's a blind quick right_left called "Magic Mountain" that I usually get some air on. It's really cool! This particular turn is real scary when you run it in the opposite direction. There are lots and I mean lots of cars go flying off the track at this turn. ROFL

I see the ROFL icon so i assume that when u go flying off the track ther is a flat open field for you to land and slide in.

That's a big 10-4. You've always got to push it to the edge to be competitve. My wife even commented at the last race to someone saying, "God, he's driving aggressive, it's good to see the old Greg back"! Is she cool or what?

Good luck Greg..Keep that DSM flying...(on the track)....

Actually there's only one, Greg's da man!

I'm working my way through NASA's HPDE program, just like any of you, could also do. Some of you may want to look into a program with one of the sanctioning bodies that are available. Look through the thread below, if you're interested in getting started on your way.

I did an HPDE two years or so ago at Watkins Glen, I plan on trying to hook up with the local Porshce and/or BMW club and go again this year hopefully :)

I ran against the NASA Factory Five (427 racing cobra's) last year and smoked'em. I ran against the Mustang Cobra club here in So Cal and smoked'em.........what can I say.

I'd love to run the track at Road Atlanta. Maybe we could take up a collection (just dreaming) :D The series I run is strictly Calif and sometimes Las Vegas. I might run the Mexican Grand Pr ix next year, we'll see. Btw the next track I race is a good five hour drive from San Diego, but it's worth it!
Thanks showing your boss what a DSM is all about :thumb:

Congratulations Greg and keep up the good work. I wish that a lot more guys would try to participate to at least one track day because that would make them reconsider the street racing for sure.
I have a few questions for you.
You were saying that you are using “Canton race oil cooling” and I was wondering what cooler (size/manufacturer) and other components are you using. What kind of oil temperatures and pressure numbers are you seeing?
Also as far as coolant temperatures did you ever try to use one of the NPG coolants from www.evanscooling.com ? It all sounds great with that coolant but I’ve never found anybody that tried it. I know it was used by Dave Wolin's Team Mitsubishi[/URL] in the past and they said it works “as advertised”. I would like to know if it really does.

Once you've been on a real race track you'll kick yourself in the butt for not doing it sooner...................and that's all I have to say about that.
I run a 8"x12"x2" Canton oil cooler. I'm running between 90-100 psi in race conditions and between 160-170 oil temps. Since I have no obstructions in front of the Fluidyne and added the foil for directional air flow up past the turbo and through the hood vent, the water temps have been max 190 degrees, and that's been with track temps of 125.
A lot of the V8 racers run the Evanscooling because of the amount of friction those big old motors make. Everyone I know that uses it swears by it! But at almost $30.00 a gallon and the fact I change my coolant after every race that can add up to some big $$. I use a full bottle of Water Wetter and full up with tap water with total success. But I'm sure if I was having overheating problems I would definitely go the Evans route.

As always, thank you for your support!
Greg
