Ok so I just got my car completely repainted and everything on the exterior back to perfection back in october. Today I pull my car out of the garage after not driving it due to it having a bad starter and gave it a nice bath since its finally warm outside. Well I washed it and then while drying it off I saw 3 areas with spider webbed cracks that look to be in the clear coat only on the front drivers side. Im trying to see how I go about fixing this and if I could do it myself. I dont know how it happened or anything since the car only seen 2" of snow, not enough to cause stress on the bumper since I didnt go through drifts or anything. I know we've had some temps at about -15, but my car was in the garage the whole time, so I didnt know if that could cause it. So now Im trying to figure out how this happened. My wifes cousin painted my car for a project since he's going into body work and it looked prestine when it came home, now its got this problem.

Call him up and talk to him. He might have a good idea. If he's going into body work, he'd probably want to know that a paint job of his cracked before he starts doing a lot of professional work. It might save him some headaches down the road.

To much hardener or its cracking because he did not use the right materiel. It is the bumper that spider webbed correct? At paint shops They sell a additive just for bumpers its called bulldog. It makes the paint flexible and hold up on plastics and such like bumpers.Even though your saying it wasn't must stress on the bumper if he did not mix the correct amount of hardener and put to much the paint will be very brittle cause its to spider web with even a little bit of movement. Most painters wont use bulldog cause its the correct way to do it but it cost a little bit more and everyone wants a cheap paint job these days. Most people just add less hardener to get the flexibility so it will hold up for awhile.Id say you'll be repainting it.I doubt its just the clear coat that's spider webbing. In less he used some boot leg clear coat LOL

Ill mention that bulldog stuff to him. I requested they use the best paint at his school which was Dupont. Yes it was the front bumper that has the cracks.

Yeah just let him know they do make stuff just for bumpers.Either way if it is only in the clear coat the bumper still wasn't done the correct way so id just tell him it spider webbed and get both bumpers redone with the right stuff and re cleared. In less your looking for a back yard paint job and don't plan on keeping the car LOL

The flex additives are put in the paint, so it wont crack when the part is put back on the car. This additive eventually evaporate out of the paint. Depending on what paint is used on the car it will crack on flexible plastics etc. Depending on how the crack looks, it could be an issue of contamination. For ex, if the air line used to spray the car had air tool oil in it.
