2G Speedometer issue, doesn't move.

Just recently bought a 98 GS Eclipse, and the needle on the speedometer doesn't budge off of zero. This is my first car, so I'm fresh into fixing/maintenance cars.
 
Speedometer cable comes from top of firewall and screws to the backside top of the transmission. Can't miss it.

Most likeLy the cable is stripped. Unscrew from tranny and check it. hopefully its the cable and not the teeth in the tranny.

I can't remember what the connection is in the car but check that side also. Either cable or either end is probably stripped.

Or not hooked up!!!!

Lester, the OP has a 2g. The 2g does not use a cable going to the trans-axle like the 1g. The 2g uses a VSS (vehicle speed sensor). On the non-turbo, it is located on the trans-axle under the intake manifold. It should have a connector going to from the harness. It may simply be unplugged/loose. Check that first, then possibly getting a replacement VSS. Here is a video if it helps more:
