Hello, I have searching and looking through old posts all morning and have not found a absolute answer to my question yet.

Its very basic, but maybe more complicated than I thought.

I have a 91 Tsi AWD, Plan on putting it on Tein SS coilovers, dropping it about 1.5"

I am also looking into a set of BBS Rims, in 17 x 8" size. Tire size I am thinking 245-40-17.

Now what offset do I need to make this sit Flush. I am thinking a 38, but have yet to find an answer. Do I need to stagger offsets to make front and rear flush? I would perfer to not have to roll the fenders to make it work, but if that is my only option then thats how it will have to be.

I look forward to your input, and thank you in advance.

Garret.

If you want flush, and a decent drop, roll the fenders. That or make sure your suspension stays stiff. And how flush do you want it, euro flush, jdm flush? I think for a 17x8, dsmer flush would be a touch lower than +38, id go about +30F with -2.5* camber and +30R with about -1.5* camber. Chances are you won't find offsets that specific, so you may need a spacer.

Plenty of people seem to fit the evo wheels which have a 38mm offset I believe. I'm putting 17x8 +40 wheels on my car tomorrow. Should be perfect, but a 2g might be a little different.

The Evo wheels are a +35 offset. They're hella flush on a 2g. Ask me how I know. Lol!

However, on a 1g, they're not so flush. They stick out a little bit. Search for some pics and you'll see. So, I think a +38 would be nice on a 1g.

Back from the dead!

So I just found out that all I can get is a 40 Offset. So with that in Mind I would need spacers front and rear correct? Just curious what kind of spacing I would need, I was told maybe a 5mm rear, but the fronts should almost be flush as is. Not sure if the guy at the tire shop was too familiar with the car.

And yes I think fender rolling would be a must for the 8" wide wheel. That being said is a 245 tire going to create problems with clearance too?

8" width wheels really isnt that wide. Many DSMers 1G and 2G already run this (I have been running this setup for over 2 years, with a lower offset FYI). A 40mm offset is perfect and you dont need to roller your fenders. Your suspension is stiff enough (if its like my 2G tein coilovers, you have 9kg/mm in the front and 6kg/mm in the back). You have a major advantage if it does rub the fender just RAISE YOUR CAR :dsm:

IMO, 8.5' wide with a 35/38 mm offset is perfect on a 1G. Whether you need to roll fenders or not depends upon how low you go and the actual height of the tire you buy.

Rolling the fenders for an 8" wheel is not a must on a 1G DSM. As Dave mentioned, it all depends on how much you're trying to lower it, the height of the tire you buy, the offset of the wheel, and the camber settings you run.

I have a 17x9" wheel and I haven't rolled my fenders. But I have really stiff springs and the car isn't slammed. I have no rubbing issues even though my rear tires stick out. The fronts stick out too but I believe they don't rub due to the negative camber I run. My car is a track car mostly though. So not everyone can use it as a good example.

Hmm sounds good to me. I plan on running the 17x8" BBS rims with a 40 offset and BFGoodrich KDW2's with a 245-40-17 size. Also plan the car being 1.5" lower, maybe 2" max. Sound good to you? :thumb:

Don't know how tall that tire is and I don't know what camber settings you're going to run. You'll find out when you put it on whether you'll need to roll the fenders. When you do, let us know so others planning on running that specific setup will know for sure.

I don't think you'll have any issues with rubbing at 1.5-2" lower. My car sits about that height and I have 17x9 +40F and +38R on Ground Controls. I think a 17x8 +40 is a bit on the conservative side, I'd push the rears out a bit more, say about another 8mm with -1.5* camber, it will look good.

The 245/40r17 is 24.72 height 9.65 width.

So then after looking at your list in your other thread maybe a 235 40 17 would be a better option.

Thoughts?

since your so worried about rubbing get a 225/45/17 or a 235/40/17. Multiple people have told you that with a 40mm offset and a 245/40/17 you are very unlikely to rub. Especially since you have somewhat stiff coilovers, your car is not excessively lowered, and if all else fails you still can raise your car a little bit.

A 245/40/17 on a 17x8 +40 will not rub the fender. Trust me, I run a 17x9 +40 with a 255/40/17...it won't rub unless I try to excessively slam it. And there is no reason you would need the car that low.

Haha never know, might get bored one day and decide to make sparks fly :thumb:

Ok, well thanks for the input guys I really appreciate it. 245's it is!
