spark plug will not thread on head

i just dropped my motor into my car and wired everything up. went to put on some new plugs and 1 of them will not thread in to the head. i really dont want to take the head of but if i have to i will. im open to all suggestions thanks

Did you go in reverse first so the threads catch. Don't most people put the plugs in before they drop in the engine....I'm guessing you bought the engine, or bought the car in peices..since you didn't know that one of the spark plug holes is possibly bad..

Yes I bought a shell and then sarted piecing the rest of it together. I was so concerned with everything else that i overlooked putting on the plugs before bolting everything up

Pull the head off and chase the threads. Somone else said chase them with it still on but that would be a bit brave IMHO

I thought about doing it with head still on but id rather not get shavings in the cylinder.

That's why i say pull yhe head. I'd rather be safe than rebuilding a turbo in a few miles

I understand. I just bought my first a few months ago and it was in pieces. Tbelt had snapped and p.o. Tore it apart then it sat for about 2 yrs. I got everything back together now but am waiting on transistor so i can start it.

It just spins it feels like it starts to catch and then it just starts to spin again

Ford 5.4 liter motors are known for the plugs breaking in half when servicing...the method to fixing them is to break the porcelin up and let it fall into the cylinder and chase the threads afterwards...the trick is to inject 1 oz of trans fluid into the cylinder to allow the particles to exit the cylinder through the exhuast cam...of course the fords do not have turbos so my advice would be to open the waste gate manually after chasing the threads....inject the trans fluid..(merc v) and fire it up

must be lucky.....everyone I have done at least 3 have broken and that is what the tool is designed to do....maybe you have a different snap on dealer with new tools....let me know
