Hello DSM Fam,

I am currently Nuts deep in my 2g 96 GST project, the drivetrain build is coming together and I decide to take a visit to the Sparco warehouse where I scooped up some EVO QRT fixed back seats,
and a steering wheel. I have a couple of questions about the seat belt situation. This car is a weekend car for me, it'll mostly see autocross, hill climbs, and the occasional car and coffee meetup. I like to take my wife and daughter to events, and so I would ideally like to maintain the back seat functionality so I can cart my daughter around if needed. Can 5 point harnesses be used without a harness bar, roll bar, or cage? Or, can I utilize the existing seatbelt for the time being? Safety is a big concern for me, once my daughter outgrows the back seat I was planning on installing a roll bar anyways.

Any insight is great appreciated!

To install those seats, you will need seat brackets ( https://corbeau.com/mitsubishi-eclipse-95-99-seat-brackets/ ) & since those are side mount seats, you will need 90 degree brackets to install them onto the sliders. You willl also need to ditch the stock belts and install racing harnesses, and even with sliders, it will be near impossible to get a small child into the back seat.

Brackets are on order, I have the 90 degree brackets, just not pictured. As far as mounting for the harnesses, would I need a harness bar/roll bar no matter what then?

The image below is of a fixed back seat installed without a slider.

With the slider you might get 6 inches at most forward movement, pretty easy to see where the B pillar on the car is.
It would be easier to access the back seat by climbing between the driver and passenger seats.

I have racing harnesses in both my Talons, for the rear belts and outside lap belt I use the factory seat belt bolt locations.
Just fyi, expect skinned knuckles no matter how you try to install the seat brackets, LOL.
