Hi folks,

I recently picked up a "bulk pack" amount of sound deadening material from a shop called Car Audio Warehouse in San Leandro, CA. The sound deadening material is made by a company (I've never heard of) in China called "Cedarslink". I went ahead and purchased this stuff from this shop for the price and the thickness they advertised - $149 + tax for 10pc 18"x32" 2.2mil thickness.

Here are some pictures of the box opening process:

Has anyone of you ever heard of this stuff? The whole box weighed approximately 40 to 50 pounds. It came with a roller and trim remover tool (not shown in pics)

I don't know when I will be installing this just yet, but when do I get to it, I will write about it for you guys.

Cheers!

I used Edead by Elemental Designs. Butyl runner based (no tars etc), adhesive backed that adheres strongly to a clean surface, comes in a roll (or a bucket), in different thicknesses, very affordable, and is doing a great job for me.

I went with Fatmat, bought it off Ebay. Believe I bought direct from the factory. No complaints here, seemed to basically be the same as Dynamat (used before) & cost was alot less.

I didn't go crazy with the stuff but can say the difference was night & day in our rattle traps. If you want to do any sort of audio upgrade, make sure to use some sort of sound deadening, otherwise your wasting your money.

I did the majority of the inner door skins & about a 12" square behind the door speakers, on the outer door skin. For the rear, I just covered the plastic speaker housing. This was enough to make a substantial difference.

I used Fat Mat. While some are concerned with weight, I was more interested in trying to keep the car quiet on the inside. I didn't have rear seats. My carpet was boat carpet which has nothing for sound, very thin yet real looking. This stuff made a difference, droan seemed a bit less, also less road noise. My car was gutted, so this went everywhere!

I forget the shipping weight but if I remember I probably used 15lbs, as I had gotten more then needed so I could do my truck.

How much would you need to do the DSM up the way you did DSM Jeff? 100 square feet? Did you do the doors?

I would love to know this as well, I am planning to do the same thing sometime this fall before it gets too cold; which also brings up a question I had: is there a certain temperature range that must be met in order to ensure proper adhesion? Because its starting to get really cold really fast up here! :notgood:

Might as well post here that I just ordered some GTMat Amazon.com: GTMAT 100 sqft Automotive Sound Deadening 50mil PRO - Acoustic Dampening Installation Kit Includes: 100sqft 2 Rolls (18in X 33ft), Instruction Sheet, Application Roller, Tape Measure, GT MAT Decals: Car Electronics

100 sq ft for $140.00 shipped.

Supposed to perform about the same as fatmat but with higher heat resistance and less tar smell.

This video sold me on spending the extra $10 for gtmat over fatmat for my budget sound deadening application.

I'll try and remember to update and let you know how it goes if anyone has interest.

edit: BTW the "premium product" he tests is almost certainly dynamat, the "hardware store" is Peel N Seal roofing flashing, and the "leading discount brand" is almost certainly fatmat.
