HI everyone
well of course im female and i dont know alot about a turbo car but i do know that i need a new turbo
i know that i have a 4g63 and i need it rebuilt
what can i do?????

helllllppppp pleeeeeeease

I see you have a 1992. Is this the stock turbo, do you know? What information do you have about why it needs to be rebuilt?

It's probably going to be cheaper to buy a used turbo in good shape rather than buy a rebuild kit and find someone to rebuild it and balance it for you.

yah i have a 1992 and as far as i know its the original turbo and the reason that i think i need a new one or for it to be rebuilt is because when i start the car all i so is blow smoke and when i have the piece one the top of the turbo off i say oil coming out of it and i dont know what that means

Ok that piece on top of the turbo you are pulling out is your oil feed line. Our turbos are oil and coolant cooled. So there is suppose to be oil in that line.

Where do you see the smoke coming from?

White smoke with blueish tint would indicate coolant is burning, the blue indicates oil. This could be a head gasket issue.

Take your intake pipe off your turbo, this is the tube attached to your air filter (do this when the car is cold) put your air into the compressor housing where the turbine wheel is and grab the nub/bolt on the compressor wheel. Try first to move it side to side, then try to pull it in and out. See how much play you have. You should have absolutely no in and out play.

A lot of in and out play, time to get it rebuilt, no further information is really needed when it comes to the turbo, but this isn't a guarantee to solve all your issues.

Also there isn't going to be any water on the pistons, it's so hot in there it steams immediately. Check your oil make sure it isn't bubbly or milky, and check your coolant overflow tank and make sure it isn't milky looking.

+1 to the link steve gave, Justin is a good and knowledgeable guy if you want to rebuild rather than replace.

well i would like to get it rebuilt but how much does that cost and i live in florida and i dont really know poeple for this anywhere around here

when i do boost there is a cloud of smoke behing me and even when im idling

You might also want to consider something a little more potent since a brand new real MHI 16g can be had for $600 from Forced Performance and is a direct swap for the 14b. As long as you don't turn the boost up you don't need any additional upgrades to your fuel system to use it.

Problem is if your 14B has as much in/out play as you're claiming, both wheels have ground down against the housings to the point where even if the turbo was rebuilt it would never be efficient. This renders your core useless and valueless as well due to the fact that the parts to repair your turbo would cost more than what I could buy a good rebuildable core for.

You basically need a new replacement 14B center housing that would drop right into your existing turbine housing and use your existing wastegate actuator, and it just so happens that I know where you can get one. LOL

Justin's on the case. You're in good hands. :) He probably has a turbo in mind for you.

When the shaft of the turbo has too much play in it, the turbine wheel and compressor wheel wobble around in their housings (the snail looking part). This can ground the fins on the wheels down, as well as make the shaft play even worse by enlarging the bearings. Once a turbo starts to go bad, it doesn't take long for it to become totally destroyed.

At this point, your best bet to simply replace your turbo with a good used 14b unit or an upgraded 16g.

its not that i want a new turbo its just that i want one that works.

The problem is that most 14b are going on, at least, 16 years old. You want one that works and will stay working for a while so you don't change it again next year.

The security of a brand new part is only reason why I suggests a new turbo but it sounds like Justin can fix you up.

Send me your entire turbo and I'll either rebuild yours and make it like new again, or replace the whole rotating assembly with a new one which will also make it like new again.

I can't go into much more detail in the forums or the mods may pull off my arms and beat me with them. :p We can talk all you want via PM, however.

Welcome! You can find a decent 14b for ~$100. Sending it in to Justin is also a very good idea. If the oil feed is giving you troubles, I would look through our vendors for a braided stainless oil feed line. It is one of my favorite pieces on my car.
