OK i just got a new stage 1 ported head put on my completely stock auto laser. My question is how much faster are the 5 speeds compaired to the autos? OK so i haven't done any free mods yet and was going to start this weekend, but i had a question with the intake. Are the intake free mods needed if you put a aftermarket intake on? which intake should i buy? eventually want to go to a evo3 big 16 or equivalent, can i run a BOV with this turbo? want to be able to hear the blow off. I can hear it at all and can barely hear the turbo spool now, will this change after i do the free mods and open up the intake a little? And what is a good manual boost controller that can be used inside the car?

Thanks in advance I'm learing more and more everyday.

you have to run a BOV in any turbo setup, yes you will be able to hear an aftermarked BOV over the stocker, the bigger turbo will be louder and yea get an intake. i personally dont mind my mbc under the hood...but thats just me

Sounds like you are on the right track.

I assume that you have performed absolutely EVERY kind of routine maintenance on your car, prior to modding it in any way -- no sense in throwing your money at a car that's not in perfect running condition!

On to your questions, though:
The stock 1g BOV is an excellent BOV and holds boost very well. If you want to vent your BOV to atmosphere (i.e. get the super loud PSSSSSH) sound, you WILL have to purchase a GM MAS and MAF-T along with a few other things. There are several posts outlining everything you need to do to get this setup, so I will refrain from repeating all the details here. Any aftermarket intake will make even your stock BOV at least a little more audible though, for the time being.

MachV has a good selection of Manual Boost Controllers. I believe their Hallman Evolution can be used inside the car. here's a link: http://machv.com/halevbooscon.html

As for immediate mods, I would look into a good 3" turbo back exhaust. Buschur Racing has some great ones, but you can find them other places if your budget is a little tighter. :thumb:

Hope this helps. :)

P.S. Buschur Racing also has a DSM staged upgrade guide similar to this site's. You might want to check it out, as well, to get some ideas: HERE

OK I'm not really worried about the bov rite now just a future thought. what generic intake should i buy, who is a good seller to buy this from? what about the performance difference in the 13b and the 14b from the auto to manual? What is the best dual pillar pod to get and what other gauge should i get starting out other than the boost gauge? Thanks

Lots of people get Air/Fuel gauges, but don't fall into that trap -- it's basically just a "light show" :p

Personally, I would go with something like an Oil Temp or Oil Pressure gauge, but everyone has their own opinions on this.

Also, when you upgrade your turbo, you might want to think about a Turbo Timer, to keep that new turbo happy for many years to come :thumb:

You don't really NEED any other gauges until later on. any pillar pod will do as long as it fits your car and the gauge. i ordered mine from http://www.gaugepods.com/ their prices are cheap and the quality is great, i was happy with mine. and about the turbo, im pretty sure its called a 13g not a 13b. but that turbo is smaller than a 14b. also, any intake will work and perform fine as long as it fits your turbo. a pipe is a pipe. just make sure that the one you get has the bov return line if you're not venting properly

Not entirely true. A BOV is just a good thing to have with a turbo. It isn't necessary. There are cars that come turboed without a BOV.

to get back on the topic...

as few other people said, make sure the engine can "breathe in" and "breathe out" without restrictions
you can then follow the Stage 2 upgrades listed on this page or start something in between

put an aftermarket intake along with 2.5-3" downpipe and cat-back exhaust
later on you can think about porting out stuff, and don't worry about the BOV

for the gauges: Boost, EGT, oil pressure (at least that's what i'm putin' in soon)
