Ok, since I got my car a new problem has came up. My key is EXTREMLY hard to turn in the ignition. I have to wiggle it around (aggressivly) for 10 seconds to 2 minutes sometimes before it will turn. Once it is out of the lock position it is just fine. WTF is wrong with it, has anyone ahd this problem, and how can I fix it? It wasnt like this until about 2 weeks ago, and is an extreme pain.

Is it your factory stock key? If not try those... If you dont have them I would try and have one reground or get one from satan? Just my ideas.

I was having problems with mine also so I had a locksmith come out and cut new keys for the car. I havent had a problem since. I would tell you how much it cost but I didnt pay anything. He is a buddy of mine so he wouldnt take any money even though he spent an hour on it.

its not the factory key, and i dont have the factory key (thrid owner). I hope i can find a cheap way to fix this, cause locksmiths and mitsubishi are both expensive.

Even if he did charge me for the job, it would have been worth it. I just spoke to my friend and he said it would have cost about $75-100 to do it. If you had no key at all, it would be about $125-175, depending on time involved.

So even though the key looks ok thats what you guys think it is? I notice the whole ignition seems to wobble around and have a little play. could it be anyhting other then the key?

pull the ignition and clean it really good and put a light coat of clean grease on the cylendar. While its out you can take a flat file to the keyway pins with the key still inserted in the cylendar if your key has excessive wear from use. I was gonna do the ignition pull with pics in the tech article section but havent gotten around to it.

If you need the step by step to pull it let me know.

Have you tried turning the steering wheel while trying to turn the key? A lot of times the key won't turn in the ignition if the steering wheel is locked in a certain position.
If that works, great, if not my bad I tried! :p

Yea, It opens all the doors just fine, and its not like i need to turn the wheel (im not that dumb :) ).

That would be a really cool step by step if you could make it. Im gonna look into what it takes to pull and clean it. I really dont think the key is the problem, i think its something wrong with the ignition.

OK just posted the step by step ignition removal in tech articles. I have also posted the process for door locks earlier. Nice to have a one key fits everything car again. when i bought it and replaced door locks I had 3 keys to fit ignition, door locks and hatch..

None of your pics are showing up. And, how'd it wind up in "recalls" ?

mmmm they show up with firefox but not with IE. It wont let me delete it so ill try to repost it using IE.
Not sure why it ended up in recalls, i put it in miscellaneous. Any chance you can delete that one and ill repost it?
Just went to make new post and when you go to put it in miscellaneous it pops up in recalls automatically.

ok...posted it in the non-performance mods(interior/exterior) section. Tried to put it in the tech article section under miscellaneous but kept defaulting to the recall section. looks like its showing pics okay now.
defiant...move it if you like... :thumb:

i too have lots of trouble with my key...its a factory key, and it wont open the hatch...it'll open the doors no trouble, but i have to struggle with the ignition for a while...i tried one of my spares(walmart cut for me) and it worked first time on everything...im guessing that i should probably switch keys....

I had major key problems when I bought my car. There were 3 keys cut at Wal-Mart which must have come from a very worn master key. I called satan and they said to bring in the title and Vin, so they could get the key code. Worked perfect, cut me a new key. only $6. They said the fancy factory keys would've been $13.

can someone please tell me who satan is....i see alot of stuff about him, but does he own his own shop or is he a keymaster or what? or are his prices so high you call him satan :p

When you see something all over and you dont know what it is, Try a search.

Satan : Mitsu dealership's that over charge for most parts. exa.. door handles, keys, ect..
