Recently in my search i noticed NOLOGY has created a SOLID SILVER CORE SPARK PLUG, evidently not one with just a tip of silver but a complete plug..I searched these forums and came up with no answers so ill ask all my fellow dsmers

HAS anyone ever used these, it is somewhat a newer product and if so how hot is this melting point comparitive to iridium...if you are running 30 psi boost the gap would be significantly lower im sure

just wanting some answers and input here :)

I remember those bulky 50 up to 80Kv coils that guys used for their full race cammed V8's .. and used stock Champion or AC solid core copper spark plugs.

Stock coils were 25Kv.

Looks like this is the secret to get that hotter spark ... just boost up the source.

This is really an unfair question since we really don't know the full details of your setup..and if we did, YOU'RE the only one to really need to find out which step to use. We can't give you that definite answer.

Thus, you begin with one step colder - like the "7" , run them for a while and if the insulator is blistered white, then you need to head to "8"- one more step colder. But if the "7" looks normal, then you would know that "8" would be too cold to use.

Simple enough for "Rock-and-Roll"?

Good luck - DSM

thank you very much sir.

This whole thread was thought into way too much. The main purpose Platinum, Iridium, Silver, Moon Dust, etc is that they increase the intervals between tune-ups. They are not designed to and will not increase performance. It's a selling point aimed towards those who want to increase tune-up intervals, not increase horsepower.

It's kinda about the same with using synth oils against dino oils: Just to increase the maintenace intervals.

Interesting, that when DSM came out with their turbo equipped DSM's in late 1988, that there was no mention of using synth oils - just the regular maintenance schedules and doing two things: Not head into boost on a cold motor and let the motor idle for a minute after a boost run to let the oil cool down the turbo bearings. 10w/30, or 20w/40 oils were the only ones recommended.....but this was for stock, out-of-the-factory form to stay within warranty specs.

Things have changed since then with the customizing the 4G63 motor.

It does neither and costs more to do neither at that too. The core of the plug does not care what is going on at the tip. The tip is going wear faster with higher 'compression' no matter what you use. If you can use iridium, it is the toughest but, means nothing unless you can get it to fire in a turbo application which, they can but, copper plugs that are just 3.00 each, although you have to regap/replace a little more often are just as cheap in the long run.

Those that have the money and want to use longer lasting plugs, also, have the money to spend on upping the voltage to make them fire....coils, tranformers, whatever you want to call them but, buying silver plugs will do nothing if your current system is firing the plugs and the silver will not last any longer than copper will or any core for that matter.

I run iridium plugs in my rx8 and they are over 20 a piece...they last around 10k miles at best before needing cleaning/replacing sometimes. I could get 'better' iridium plugs for 35 a piece (did actually) and guess what...they last about the same....I have tried nearly all kinds of plugs and what the manufacturer says is pretty good on dsm's actually.

On a lighter note, if you want to increase the service interval of your car, drive with hotter plugs and stay out of boost. :) Can go nearly 100k miles with today's cars if you do that. :) Most service intervals are based on driving habbits. If you drive hard, more service needed, if you drive very easy, less service needed whether oil, trans, coolant, or any fluid on any car for that matter.

As far as thread topic goes, the plugs are a waste of money.

since every setup is different ill go with what i can test that is the best, so i have to ask and im honest, if i test the difference in the plugs and find numbers are different with an upgraded system and o2 readings are different would anyone truthfully like to know?

i mean if someone tells me something i dont know i listen..id rather find out with fact and tell what ive found than simply believe based on what people have seen and not really tested with an actual instrument does that make me a skeptic??

Jesus man, what makes you think that your car needs something that no one's car needs? Why did you ask in the first place if you were just going to disagree with people that are WAY more experienced than you. You basically wasted people's time with this crap.

I have used nearly every kind of plug you can think of...from split fires to platinum, to iridium, to +2 and +4 platinum...You can try the e^3 and the pulstar plugs if you want as I have not tried them...It will not matter as it is the voltage requirement that is the key and not the plug so much. Get a better coil before you go spending money on plugs. As long as it fires, plugs do little other than changing the gap to reduce voltage to make sure it fires with given voltage of the coil.
