sooo i finnaly got my motor 100% rebuilt, paitnted, cleaned, etc.... been working on it since 7 this morning just finished installing it at like 8 tonight.. made sure everything was 100% perfect torques everything to spec replaced all the vacuum lines spent alot of time being a perfectionist. i sit down in the drivers seat turn the key and the friggen starter just spins doesnt engage the flywheel... at that point i got up shut the light off in the shop and stormed out all pissed off. im thinkin the starter jus crapped out on me but idk everything is bolted in properly so idk... i jus wanted my car done tonight so i could play in the snow this weekend...

Sounds like maybe you have an awd starter in a fwd .

You can get another starter, and go have fun..No big deal..Starters break..

ya i know.. jus sucks because i worked all day on it and i rlly just wanted to hear her fire.. and im not about to push start a brand new engine that needs to be broken in..

did you remember the starter plate? i bought a 1g and the starter would just spin like you saying, i took out the starter and the plate that goes between the engine block and transmission was missing. i pulled engine and tranny, installed the starter plate and it started up like a champ.

I dont think starters vary from awd and fwd. Just flywheel, so....maybe you have an awd flywheel (smaller diameter) in a fwd ( whos flywheel has larger diameter). Either that or starter is going out and not engauging.

the plate is there.. it started fine before i took it apart to rebuild.. its all the same parts, flywheel, starter , block plate etc... pretty sure its just a faulty starter

the solenoid could just be stuck happened to me on an old truck i had. I rapped on it with a hammer a little and it freed up for me.
