Hey guys, I was pullin things outa me engine bay to give it a good clean and repaint some of the rust brackets.... when I cam across this... could someone tell me what it is? and is there supposed to be another vaccum line going to the naked nipple? (it is located under the battery)

Their is supposed to be another hose running to either the intake pipe or the purge control solenoid, I can't remember, But it shouldn't hurt anything if its not their.

I dont even have that whole big canister at all, I yanked that sh*t out. When i removed my Vac lines.

I'll tell you exactly what that is my friend. If I remember correctly The line runs from the gas tank and to the carb on my Dodge Charger. Alls it does is filter out gas fumes and whatnot. Pretty stupid if you ask me but thats just my two cents. Its just a charcoal canister filter. There should be two lines though. Hope I helped out some. Oh and whats even more messed up i think is the gm emblem. but at least it aint a ford emblem. . or else i would rip mine out tonight. just a thought.

Thats the Charcoal chanister. The line that "did" come off of there went to the stock intake tube to burn off the fumes.

where is the stock intake tube? I looked around the manifold, but i couldn't find any place were it might go?
on a scale of 0-10... 0 being not important at all to 10 being very important. what would you say the importance of it being connected is?
(btw, it passed emissions)

That hose should be connected to your rubber intake hose that is between the MAF and turbo. I would hook it back up unless you are going to remove the charcoal canister and cap off the line.

If it passed, and passed the visual inspection (which BTW that damn thing is buried under some *hit) -0-

If you have the stock rubber intake tube and its not plugged off then your'e sucking in un-metered air. That "could" cause a lean condition and engine problems.

Take a picture of your intake tube (not manifold) and post it if you dont know what to look for.

My new intake tube does not have the nipple to connect that line.... Can I just unplug the hose at the canister or should I cap it off??

Ill have to look at that again but if i remember correctly that line that you circled is connected to somthing else...

The one you circled 92redman is already hooked up to something... the EGR maybe? and from there it hooks up to the other nipple on the charcoal canister....

Just look at this diagram and make sure everything is in the right spots. If not then you can just eliminate them, then you won't have to worry about them ever again.

The line you circled on your intake tube is coming from the purge control valve. Leave it there if you're keeping your emissions crap. The line you first circled on the charcoal cannister does not go into the intake tube. I just recently changed my fuel filter (which required me to remove the charcoal cannister) and I was losing my mind trying to find out what line went to that other top port that you circled on the charcoal cannister. After examining my Chilton's for about an hour and following every single line on the car according to the diagram, I discovered that the top port on the charcoal cannister goes nowhere. The Chilton's diagram doesn't even mention that line going anywhere, either. I've just left my open and the car runs wonderfully. At first I plugged that port, and the car ran line complete ass - backfiring on decel or any heavy vacuum.

I realize this thread is about a month old, but I'd just like to add my findings to help anyone that is pulling their hair out trying to figure out this shit

when i made my new intake tube i just took that line and let it hang off, so that the fumes dont get released by the firewall and get sucked into the cab

guitarXgeek is RIGHT. When i relocated my battery to the back i actually was missing a purge valve (clamped onto the side of canister and looks like a ball with 2 lines going into/out of it) and i THOUGHt i was missing a hose on the circled nipple.

Its supposed to vent to the air or something.. Trust me on this, its supposed to be left open. Im not sure if i read it in a manual or not but jus trust me on this one ;-)
