I have owned my 95 gsx for a while now. It was having issues and I was unable to drive it for like two years. Had a buddy with an eclipse that threw a rod(or something). I bought it for 200. It was a 6 bolt with 2g head. Replaced my stock 7 bolt with it.

I got it all together quickly in order to get it off my buddy's property. Slapped it together and it started up. No longer had the time or money to continue working on it. A couple years later I move And have the time and a little bit of money to continue.

I know it leaked pretty bad and I did not figure out why. I am wanting to pull it all out and redo it... properly. I no longer remember everything I have learned about the motor. I plan to go all the way down to the block and work up from there.

Anything I should do before pulling it out? Any tips or info I should know or a quick/general order I should do things?

(I am currently going through threads about the engine in general as well to learn more and relearn)

Tip #1: Find a useful diety and start worshipping!
Tip #2: Pick an attainable goal for your build based on experience, budget, and parts availability. Shit costs a lot more now than it did even a few years ago. Plan out your build, who will do your work, etc.

Even if you have the $ to spend some parts are just impossible to obtain, unless you get lucky. It's getting harder and harder as these age.

Oh that sucks. What are some things in your experience that have been almost impossible to get?

I'm confused, for a 6-bolt or a '95 7-bolt?
Speaking from a 6-bolt perspective:
A reputable machine shop that works with the 4g63. OEM 1g timing belt tensioners are getting rare and 1g timing belt covers are pretty much gone. The OEM overhaul gasket kit might be getting scarce too. If you find the parts you need, don't wait to buy them or you might not get another chance.

Plan for it to take 3 years longer than expected and $2,000 more than budgeted.

Pro tip: leave all the hoses connected from their source and if not, use painters tape to mark what they are or what they go to. Same with electrical in some cases. It may be a long time until you need to reconnect and might forget what it connects to, if anything at all. Take pictures too before disassembly.
If going through the whole engine, better to replace all the hoses too if they are original or older than 10 years.
Look into the engine mods! There a bunch of useful tips in here about porting out passages or getting better aftermarket components for oil and air flow. If I wasn’t on my phone I’d link the mods in here.

Yeah, really either. I've got both. I have a 7bolt full engine and a 6 bolt block with a 2g head. The 6 bolt is in the car. But I was afraid you'd say the timing shit, haha. They don't have any aftermarket ones of that.

I guess I should probably really get to working on it then because I want to drive it again. It would suck to let this 6 bolt not get any use. I had it bored about .20 over for the forged rods and pistons in it.

Makes me sad it's going out the way side. I guess probably shouldn't really do much else besides get it running and well maintained. I would want to minimize breaking stuff as much as possible.

Funny thing, when I was buying parts for my 6-bolt a year and a half ago, I often noticed the 7-bolt 1g parts were not (as) available but the 6-bolt parts were usually in stock. Not sure about 2g parts, but you might still have some luck with that 6-bolt. Especially aftermarket parts. I also see ExtremePSI still has 6-bolt tensioners in stock.

For me since i am doing a 4g64 hybrid. The correct cam gears were hard to get, not the adjustable kind.
And since i have a spyder, no chance to get NOS for things like weather seals, window guards, door panel bezels.
Was a pain finding a decent black top CAS.

Mostly odd parts.

Sweet. I'll check that out. That is a bit of good news.

But yeah. It sucks parts are hard to find. They should re use this engine in something new so they start making parts for it again more abundantly. Haha
