So I think I spun a Rod bearing?

I can't remove the rods or anything tonight but I am wondering if there is just a little play in the rod like I can slide it side to side maybe a 1/16th of a inch is that normally the rod with the bad bearing? Only number 2 has this little bit of play.


Is this a automatic rebuild or is it fixable without a rebuild?

Its probably time to just change the rod bearings if they haven't spun yet.

I found metal pieces in the oil pan.
and the crank can't be turned by hand. Was told the engine was just rebuild
about 800miles ago.The metal pieces in the oil pan make me think it spun already.

Side to side movement is normal, front to back is not.

Up and down no only .002 thousandths and side to side. If you dont get your crank machined and do the proper work now you will hate yourself in a few months. Hope this helps

You shouldn't have any noticeable play if checking by hand. If you do its time for a rebuild.

Yeah the play I have is in cylinder 2 and it moved side by side like maybe a 16th of a inch if that.


So do you guys think I need to do a total rebuild. or is it going to be more the crank the bearings etc. The engine did lockup. I haven't moved it since through.
I am going to have a machine shop check the crank out and see if it is still good.
Just wondering if a full rebuild is the best option. or can I do like the crank and bearings?

id say rebuild the bottom end. get crank checked prob going to have to get it turned or possiably on price get a new one. new berings and piston rings. if some one wants toget rid of there enging with 800 mi there is probably a reason. i have met that oe personaly

Bearings are junk....turbo will be junk in a short amount of time.

Well there is no silver from the bearing on the outside of the oil filter so I don't think any of the metal pieces reached any other parts of the engine.

Well you arent going to know until you pull it apart and see, i threw a rod bearing just this this past year, have everything checked out. Safe than sorry.
