Smoke From Dash!!!!!

OK here is how it goes,

I recently Put in a Oil cooler catch can, OK(last Friday). Now sometime when I was installing it or just after I did I must have Pulled Out the wires for the : Coolant Temp Sensor.
NOT REALIZING I DID THIS WAS THE PROBLEM TILL THIS AFTERNOON. Before that I.......

Since I did this the car started running Rich and was VERY hard to start, Witch after Finding a few boost leaks, Fixing those, Changed plugs and wires, I even Installed a FMIC since the stock rubber hose to the stock SMIC Had a GIANT gash and I had no replacement, I installed the kit I had planned on selling just to get the car running. I went to start the car and AGAIN it was hard to start. I didnt fix the problem.

BUT late this afternoon, I Recalled the same problem with the same symptoms I had before, and it was from a Bad Connection on the Coolant temp sensor just under the Coolant Fill.
AND sure enough there it was, Both wires were completely unplugged. I must have snagged them or they just rotted off since the wire is so Brittle.

No biggie right, Just crimp on a some female spade's and reconnect and good as new.
Ok so I did just that and re installed the wires to Coolant sensor, Got into the car put the key in and went to crank it............................. SMOKE ROLLED OUTA THE DASH!
I turned the key off, Ripped the leads off the battery and waited for fire.

Lucky I think I saved it from MORE damage But Something did smoke ALOT, It came from directly behind the Speedo cluster between the window glass and dash.

I Must have Hooked The Coolent temp wires up backwards since the factory plug is long gone and replaced with Female spade connections, SO what Smoked, It must have something to do with coolant temp sensor and its behind the speedo cluster?
Right now I actualy have my WHOLE interior stripped and can see Most everything, I dont see any thing off the bat, checked the CPU and its OK.

IM gonna start pulling apart the dash and look for it anyway but just wanna know an idea of what Im looking for. There is probably a Module or a Relay that smoked.

I had the same problem with the connector for the temp sensor. I hooked it up both ways and never had smoke or a problem.

Yea that crossed my mind too. I would Guess that hooking it up backwards would have No ILL effects but just wouldnt work. If its not related to my wiring mistake I might have made the car Technicly ran yesterday, but still was hard to start after it was put back together. If it was a short or Incorrect wire somewhere else it would have done this yesterday.
Other than FIX the broken wires thats all Ive done since I last had the car running.
and this shoulda fixed the hard start once I had the Coolant sensor Reconnected.

Man this sucks! And I was so excited to get my car running with a Front mount and full boost too! I thought for sure I was gonna be rollin around and smokin some V8's this Weekend.

the temp sensor is basically just a resistor that reacts to temperature, it can hook up either way. You must have created a short somewhere. Double check any wiring you touched...wait, the female spade connectors at the temp sensor aren't by any chance resting on each other just the slightest bit? thats a pretty tight spot, I fixed mine the same way, but my connectors are insulated unlike most common crimp connector spades.

WOOOOT!!!!!! Man after spending about 30min Under the dash! FOUND THIS!

I traced this Back to Center console where I had cut it short and put a Bell cap on the end of the wire, It use to be to a Toggle switch the former Owner installed for WASHER L.E.D'S
### ASS RICER CRAP! It was'nt fused like it should be coming strait off the Ignition wire.

It Must have got pinched when I Re Installed the CPU after I took it out to check it.
Man that is just wrong and I work in a Car Audio shop. Just goes to show NEVER trust someone Work for good Unless you Know its good. I Seen that wire there before but never traced it back to where it was connected just capped it thinking that was ok.

To think my car COULD have burned to the ground, at any time because some Jerkoff Wanted some ### LED washer squirters and was too cheap to get a Pro Install.

weld your clutch pedal assembly while you have the dash out... its a PITA to take that dash out and put bak in... after i did it the 2nd time i cant get my damn dash to stop rattling!
Nice to see that the wiring problem is fixed.

Check to see if your maf is plugged in/all wires are intact... could be the hard starting problem. I wish i had a dollar for every time that i forgot to plug in my maf after installling something on my car!
