4G64 burning oil but not smoking. I search the forum but I find so many different things and most have to do with burning oil AND smoking. Can some guide me on where to start. I'm not sure how fast it is burning but I drove 2 miles then parked randomly checked my oil and it was dru. Looked into valve cover and smoke came out. I'm going to do an oil filter change and put oil in then watch it closely.what should I look for

If your burning oil and not leaking it, you are smoking. You just may not be seeing it under normal driving condtions. Go start your car, let it idle for 10 to 20 minutes, then pull out onto the road and give it some spirited gas....I bet it smokes, alot. My N/T was that way, I couldnt' see the smoke under normal driving unless I let it idle and then got on it. It would clear up again after about 30 seconds or so. (Valve stem seals).

if you lost 4 quarts of oil (or more) in 2 miles and it's not smoking, then are you sure there was ever oil put in it? Every car no matter how new burns a little oil, from the film that remains on the cylinder walls. which is why (aside from possible leaks) you are recomended to check the oil in every car on a regular schedual, just when burning the small amounts that get by that way and the addition of a cat there's no smoke from them either.. but the amounts you're saying you lost, either you've got a MAJOR leak, or the oil just wasn't put in if there's no smoke.

Not tryin to be harsh but think about it that's really not a "mystery"

Fill the oil... drive a few more miles and check it again, if it's dry again, follow you're trail back home, if it's only down a little from before you left look for leaks if you're positive it;'s not smoking. And it's better to have some one follow you to check for smoke, small amounts sometimes can't be seen by the driver in the rear view mirror
