Smog Only California

I am looking to sell my 1986 corolla GT-s and buy a 1999 eclipes. The car I am looking at, Has a smog center only on it. I know you have to fail a few time to get this. I havent had time to ask why it has failed. I am looking at the car tomorow....

Can anyone explaine what the deal is?
Smog only test center a lifetime thing?

The previous owner was probably caught violationg a smog regulation, which means that the car will have to be smogged at a state sponsored facility.

I would wait and find a car that does not have this flag, as it is going to be a pain in the ass to get it smogged.

your dont have to fail to go to a smog only station. my car and my dads 4 runner both had to go to a test only station, and neither car was ever cited for smog violations. unless smog only and test only are two different things.

yes, he is right, your car dont' have to fail smog to go to a test station only. The DMV can randomly pick your car for a test station only.

Off the subject but I see you are in sac...how much you selling the 86 for?

My car has never failed smog and I have to go to a smog only station every time. I kinda prefer this tho, because these places do not repair cars I never have to worry about gettiing a line of crap from em.

the DMV randomly assigns i think 30% (up from 15% i believe 3 years ago) of all vehicles to test only...and all cars within certain areas that have been declared high smog areas...

i know riverside county is one of them...
