Smog Issu"es

Ok well i'm supposed to be buying a 97 GST today, but the guy is having problems getting it smogged. I guess the battery was loose and he had to tie it down and stuff last Thursday, and in the process he reset the ECU. And it hasn't really been driven except from the little we drove it yesterday checking it out since then, and the ECU isn't completly reset. So he's saying he's having trouble getting it smogged, and wants to know if we want a "pretest" or something like that. The car is completely stock minus a Greddy BOV, and a magnaflow muffler. Should this be an issue? What should I do?

Check for CELs and find out what's wrong. If the car is completely stock, than any CELs are there for a specific reason - get a scanner or logger and find out what that reason is. Most all of the CELs an ECU can throw are directly related to the emissions systems.

The BOV and muffler wouldn't cause any negative effects emissions-wise.

Check engine lights (a.k.a. MILs, malfunction indicator lights). You need a scanner or datalogger that hooks up to the OBDII port under the driver's side dash to check the reason why the light is on. I don't know what you have available out in Cali, but around here (FL) if you go to an Autozone or something, they'll check it for you for free.

Ah, there is no light on. Its cool I just got home with the car. Gotta go get it smogged tomorrow though. I guess when he unhooked the battery, he reset the codes in the ECU and it wasn't driven enough afterwards to do the smog. So I payed 50 less to do the smog myself, and he did a pretest so we KNOW it will pass. its awesome!
