Here's my problem:my car is running really rich causing my spark plugs I put in foul out in 15 minutes of running.Car also runs a lil rough at idle but smooths out when I rev it.I have a 95tsi ecu in the car hsright now

I would suspect an ECU problem before I would suspect a wiring harness, unless someone has hacked around on it. Also just because its throwing a code doesnt mean the sensor is bad or the problem.

If the MAP sensor is bad or not reading correctly it could be vacuum/boost leak depending on if the throttle plate is open or closed. If the leak is big enough to make the idle surge then there is a possibility I could see it affecting the MAF reading..

The best way to diagnose this would be a live data stream scanner or data logger. However, not everyone has access to those and most shops charge a decent amount to hook a car up and diagnose it. If it were me I would get some othyoer opinions before throwing parts at it. :coy:

EDIT: I recommended earlier in this thread to loosen the throttle cable bracket and ever so slightly move it to tighten the slack on the cable. I had to do this until my new throttle body came in, because the BISS screw wouldnt come out and the car was dying due to low idle. If you are careful enough you can slightly crack the throttle plate and this should keep it from dying IF the biss screw is the issue.

Well someone has hacked around the ecu harness a big tape mess some wires are taped together which I know shouldn't be like that.I'm also gonna check the ground wire for maf because I know it splices into the ist and map sensor grounds also.

Only way I could see the ecu being the culprit is if you somehow got your hands on a auto ecu instead of a 5-speed or vice versa. A few things are different on the auto's/manuals - I believe turbo and injectors "correct me if I'm wrong" so this may cause the car to run rich if the ecu is set for a different turbo/injectors. Could be something to check into... if you have the stock ecu and it's still good then it probably wouldn't hurt to pop it in and see if it helps.

Um... that's only 1Gs, isn't it? Also, 1Gs have 3 temp sensors at the thermostat; ECU, gauge, and the "overheat" sensor, which I believe shuts down the AC at 240*F. Seems to me that might also turn on both fans. Do 2Gs have anything like this?

Edit: I didn't notice the 2nd page. I thought this thread looked familiar. Sorry all.

Correct, the 2g auto and manual should be the same. The auto's have a seperate TCM for the tranny.
