Slowboy Racing ... LSD?

I am thinking about getting a LSD. So I have been looking around and had been seeing $300 to $400. When i looked on Slowboy Racing I saw that they had a FWD LSD for $190. That seem to good to be true. Is it?

I had the phantom grip lsd insert Which is similar to slowboys design.I went to the track had wheel hop and my diff exploded into tiny peices and took my tranny along with it.I rebuilt the tranny and put a karking lsd in and the difference from a insert to a true lsd is amazing.I am pushing righ close to 300whp.If you cant afford money for a true lsd then make sure you dont get major wheel hop.Also that was with motor mount inserts.I can say the traction was better with the insert that open but not as good as the true lsd.

Hey don't compare my LSD with a phantom grip.

Mine are machined right here in Indiana, PA from tool steel.

Phantoms are a cast steel and nobody really seems to know where they are made.

I have the SBR LSD, and though I'm on the stock T-25 and a lot of other stock stuff, it was worth it!! I mean I don't know about comparing this instert to a true LSD, but I can give it versus stock stuff.

The torque steer is gone unless I'm on an unfavorable road. Heh... good 'ol NEPA!!

As for twisties, though, much more fun!! The car with a fully stock suspension takes corners better. The tires WILL still be straining for traction, but there isn't the understeer like there was before. I mean I'll here tires skipping and screeching, but it'll hold in the corners even with powering out of them. The car sometimes will pull to the inside, but I haven't the experience with it yet to discern when it might pull in and when it wont. But it isn't bad when it does pull you in. Its kinda nice and very correctable with a little less steering input.

I haven't used it in crappy weather, but I'll tell you this. My driveway is a nightmare for a standard car. To get up it you have to be in first gear (starting from a stop in the middle of the road) and it's a 120-130 degree turn to the left with a hill thats probably 35 to 40 degrees upward (NO BS!!) and goes like that for a good 40 feet followed by a 100 degree curve to the right for 10 feet with another steep little section, and then it levels off. It's a nightmare and I don't think I'll be able to do it when the car is lowered. Now I haven't driven on snow yet, but I have driven on a LOT of wet leaves going up that sucker, and anyone who knows about wet leaves know that they offer as little traction as snow in high enough quantities. Before I'd have to baby it up the hill or be careful and if I gave it any "normal" power to go up the hill like any other car, it'd slip and wouldn't be consistent.

Well not any more!! Now I can' take it at normal speeds and the car goes up not problem. Again, I'll hear the tires grabbing for traction, but it's always there and the car can hit a little boost around that top curve with wet leaves again, and it'll go fine. I imagine and AWD would be better of course, and there'd be almost no traction issues, but its a VAST improvement and I'm sure it'll show in the snow, too.

As for the install... heh... you wont be afraid to rip apart and rebuild your tranny afterwords, and it really gives you in insight as to how everything works in there!!

So yes, kids, for $200ish with shipping I think its worth it! If you can get a regular LSD, go for it, but if you can't then this is what you want. And I agree, screw the phantom insert. I'd trust the SBR one any day of the week over it!

Just so you guys know, we have thrown 500 wheel at these LSD's with out a problem. When ever we have slicks, we usually shreded a stock set of axles before any other problems arose.

I'm going to upgrade my engine so I can pull 450HP I'm pulling 300+hp and I really need some traction I think I'll go with the SBR LSD and with these good feedbacks I might buy it! in normal driving on curves it will open right(unlock) thr wheels right?

If you look at my track time you will sea what i'm talking about. 300+hp car 15's= no traction. And I love my fwd just to let you know there are many of us that whant our fwd's to make good 1/4 mile times 98evoIIIpwr

KAAZ is good or if you want the best grab a QUAIFE. You can get a QUAIFE off eBay for less then $1100 shipped. NEVER EVER EVER buy a OBX LSD though.

It actually help keep both wheels turning when one of the wheels starts slipping. That way you don't end up with 1 spinning wheel and 1 dead wheel.

No, it's not a true LSD. It can break later down the line and mess up your transmission. If you want to put a LSD, I would suggest you get a true LSD instead of an insert. $800-$1100 now, or possibly a rebuilt transmission bill later.

Depends on how you are using it and which one you get. I've yet to heard of a QUAIFE breaking or messing up a transmission. Remember you get what you pay for. If you cheap out on it, you're looking for things to go wrong.

It feels great! A lot less steering issues. When I hit the turns it goes a lot smoother and It also feels a lot better when the ground is wet and it's raining.
