Can someone please explain to me why the sick ass Skunk 2 shift knob does not fit on either a stock 2g or stock 1g when it supposedly has the same pitch.

M10 X 1.25

2 different skunk 2 knobs were tried on 2 different DSM's and still did not fit.

Please explain this phenomenon
Thanks

I was very familar with skunk2 when i owned a honda and as far as i know they only made a shift knob for hondas and acuras that means that the threads are not the same as our DSM's.

Tissue rejection

It recognizes the that is a honda parts and won't let it attach...

Seriously, it apparently is physicaly incompatible in some dimension.

I doubt anyone has ever tried it since it is a honda part

Ok honda and acura have the same thread pattern and Mazda, mitsu, and Nissan have the same threads for the most parts, this is why it doesn't fit.

In so far as I know, the thread-matched Skunk2 shift knobs are -NOT- out yet for our DSMs......

When I called around looking for one last month, most places either reported them as being out-of-stock or backordered. Sport Compact Only actually looked up the part for me in their warehouse, and reported that, at that time, they have yet to even receive any such knob from Skunk2, who apparently put out advance ads for the component without the part having been built yet.

I have no idea if the proper 10x1.25 threaded knob is out yet, so if you've still got the box, make sure it's the right part number 627-99-0090 (for Toyota, which SHOULD fit, but again, is supposedly not yet actually "made" - Skunk2 lists a Mitsu-specific one, but with a "TBA" for part number and pricing).

Otherwise, it's time to re-thread.

Speaking of which, Defiant, do you have a particular re-threading tool you'd recommend for the job?

Really liked the solid-feeling of this particular shift knob, even over my current Momo's.........

Are you using the factory shifter, not the cloned B&M?

Get a tap and adjust the threads.

On a related note, does anyone know what size/thread pitch shift knobs will fit the B&M clone?

FYI, EF Hondas, and DC2 hondas at least use the same thread as DSMs. I have an Integra GSR shift knob, that was on my beater 91 4dr civic, in my talon right now. screwed right on.

Sorry, not a Honda guy :( .....please clarify.

I understand the "EF" designation, but unfortuantely not the "DC2," please give me a quick lesson on this one. :thumb:

But in any case, if I understand what you're saying correctly, then the EF and DC2 Hondas have 10x1.25 thread-pitch. But that unfortunately still does not help the current post-originator's problem as Skunk2 only lists a Honda application in 10x1.5 thread pitch, correct?

Thanks for clearing that one up for me. :)

Just a tap and a handle. If you get a kit -and you might as well for the fifty bucks or so- it'll also have a thread gauge. Measure the stick's threads and cut the knob to fit, using a tap, tap handle, and a fair bit of oil.

DC2 = 94-01 2dr Integra.

wow, i thought someone would just comment on the stupidity but i guess not.

For some reason, read something wrong somewhere and didnt realize that
honda and mitsu have different thread patterns.

honda = 10 x 1.5
mitsu = 10 x 1.25

So im glad we resolved that b4 we ordered one for our project. :D
Thanks anyway guys!
