I want to replace some of my old vacuum hose with silicone. I was going to get the RRE kit in blue or something, but I see they have silver. OMG

I was interested in seeing how it looks in the 4g63. Anyone have silver silicone hose and want to snap a picture for me? No need to clean up the bay or anything, just wondering the general look of it.

Then I was searching around for pictures of it (found nothing), and discovered Baker Precision has clear. OMG

Please show me an engine bay photo of silver or clear vacuum hoses!

I wouldn't mind seeing blue either, but I think I've seen it before; it looks good.

EDIT: do you think 3.5mm will work in place of 4mm? Because I just noticed Baker doesn't have 4mm. :(

I want one. Id love to get rid of all of the dull black hoses and replace them with the silver post some pics when you get done if you do the silver so I have an idea of what my engine bay would look like even though I only have like 4 hose that need to be replaced.

Won't the clear ones yellow after a while? Specially if you use one on the VC cover to intake route.
Hmm, I don't know. You will certainly see oil in them, which I thought would be interesting (at least before it becomes totally black) if it's something like VC to intake.

The thing I don't get is that they say these are not for oil. Well, they aren't oil lines, but will a little oil destroy silicone or something?

They are not for use as water lines or fuel lines.

NOTE: Not For Fuel Or Oil Applications

I mean, I get that they aren't for high pressure lines and stuff, but I don't think water or oil would do a dang thing to silicone hoses. I think they just aren't being clear here (about high pressure lines), but what do I know, maybe silicone doesn't like liquids. Warn yo mommas her implants are going to disintegrate.

Either they will change color, they will swell up and, they could become brittle from absorption, etc.

They are just saying don't run them where there is continuous flow of either fluid. For off of a a VC, I think it would be fine. Just get enough extra in the proper size for when and if it decides to change color or get damaged.

I did silver vac lines on the spyder I had a few years ago. It looked really good imo. I still got a bunch of pics I can provide, but my damn phone won't upload them, so I'll have to try later. Silver looks good though, I think mine came from Vibrant Performance. I thought about doing clear ones, but decided not to because of discoloration.

I used clear for my surge tank lines as they are what came with it. Neat because you can see the air bubbles moving up to the surge tank :)

I can't comment on discoloration as these have only been on the car for a couple months.

As for why not to use silicone lines for oil lines, I believe motor oil at least can/will degrade the lines over time. At a minimum the oil can seep through the silicone lines and I've seen this firsthand as I ignored the warnings myself.

I went a head and ordered the silver early this morning since I needed the RRE SS clutch line to get here right away.

Yeah, I thought it would be cool to see the liquid/bubbles moving around. Depending on if people say it stays clear, I may change a couple of them to clear later.

Thanks

So what's the metal cover over your valve cover for? Is it there to trap heat? Just curious, looks kinda cool, but just trying to understand function ;)

I have Andrew Brilliant's (gixxerdrew) body kit on my car and the hood has huge hood vents right over the valve cover. I needed some way to redirect rain away from the spark plug area. I have coil-on-plug units so I couldn't just seal up the oem plug cover, and I needed an air gap so the COP didn't fry. This is what I came up with.

Yeah, I took a look through your gallery to see if you had more pics of your engine. Saw andrew's kit. That kit is f#@*ing awesome . Glad to see another DSM with it being used for real racing. I think you had a great idea on your "rain guard". I love seeing truely custom parts done on our cars. :thumb:

RRE called and tells me that the company that made the silver vac hose got hit hard with the economy and went under. The silver is no longer manufactured. I said, "I'll have to get it somewhere else", and he tells me "No, you can't get it anymore."

Great, great guy, BTW.

Anyway, so I'm looking all over the ####ing internet and came across dick. He wasn't BS'n.

I did find metallic gold and metallic copper (and it looked interesting), but it only came in 3mm. Anyway, I can't find any cool hose, just red/yellow/black/blue.

I'm real annoyed about this. Bakers Performance has silver listed, but I'm not sure if it's shiny and metallic (It looks like it, but they don't have 4mm -- 3.5 might work, I have no idea).

And that's it. Nothing else cool. Once I saw gold and copper, I became intent on finding something like that. Thinking of going with an unusual gold scheme. OOoooooo

Here's the glitter stuff, BTW. It looks too thin, but they claim to have a different process making them stronger. Personally not interested in green, nor impressed by the blue, but there you go.

Anyone have a secret place to buy silicone vacuum hose - something a little original besides the primary colors? Love you long time.

Clear hose is going to be tough to find listed as vacuum hose. I would thing that looking for the clear stuff would be easiest at an aquarium store.
