Side trim strips on 1g

Alright, I'm going to be tackling some body work/paint soon on my 1g. I have the white with the black roof/side trim. I see alot of people just paint the trim the same color as the car, but I like the look of the black trim. I was thinking it may be easier to remove the trim while I paint, and then glue them back on. My question is, are these trim pieces easily removable? Can I get just get a heat gun and use that? What do people normally do? Thanks guys.

Lol, I’ve removed them before off my parts car and they aren’t to terribly hard but I will say that you can run the risk of them splitting in half if you get them off in one piece. I’d say tape them off and paint them. They are also not easy to find.

Ok. I can leave them on, just thought it'd be easier to get everything done with them removed. Are they that brittle?

That's obvious. I didn't but once they are off they can break. Have to remember that they are 27 years old and have been exposed to the weather and elements. They are a soft, porous and flexible material so, keep that in mind
