Hey guys all my searches haven't found my answer. While I know doing a side exit would eliminate 40lbs of weight. When is it ok to do and when would it be no
Beneficial?? And exactly how is it run?? Off the O2 or the turbo? Thanks guys

Unless you just want to be obnoxious LOL. The car should be a dedicated drag car and already be in the single digits or close to it to even consider side exit. There's plenty of cars running 10's or lower with a full exhaust.

Really depends on how large a turbo you are running. The bigger the turbo the more noticeable the benefits of running a short, big exhaust

I run mine on the street, it's probably not a good idea but i do. And mine is 3.5" and 36 inches long. I eliminated 55lbs it goes off the turbo and is probably a good idea to only run at the track. I plan to make a lighter full exhaust in the fiture but the 3.5" side exit isnt too obnoxious. It scares little kids tho

If were you live you don't think the cops gona pull you over every time they hear you then why not? It looks cool saves weight and will help spool. You could run it off the o2 housing or turbo. Its gona be loud especially on the highway, I have a straight pipe that exits out the back bummper and sometime think about adding a muffler its a little droney, so there's some things to think about.

You can just unbolt your catback and runs open down pipe at the track. The side exit is just annoying. I have a stock exhaust with a cutout so i can actually hear something and my car runs single digits.

Case in point. I just don't get the point of being that obnoxious all the time LOL.

What you dont like the sound of jet engines? Lol

Richard you might get a new personal best if you remove that stuff LOL but i understand if you daily or drive very often.

Don't get me wrong Kyle there's nothing like the sound of a UPS Truck ROFL...OP: The bigger turbo comment was put out there because the more power you make (hence the bigger turbo) the more restrictive a 2.5-3in full exhaust becomes. Though there are plenty of people on here making upwards of 600awhp with a full exhaust which is why, IMHO I don't see it as necessary.

I'd only run a side-exit exhaust on a track-only car. It's loud, annoying, and attracts the wrong attention on the streets! I'd rather see someone run a straight exhaust with no cat/muffler out the back of the car on the streets, at least then it's only loud behind you. I've run a 3" no cat/muffler out the back, and a 4" out the bumper (currently)...and out the back is the way to go if you want some semblance of "less noise".

Back in the late 90s people thought there was no reason at all to put a 3" exhaust on a 16g car either.

That said if it's a drag car, do it. If not, figure out how to rig up an active exhaust.

What I'd sugguest is this.

Make a custom o2 housing vband it with yourbside exit, and for street duty, vband, and exhaust hanger up the full exhaust, thats what in going to be doing when i have some time, my side exit is going to get cut up to get a vband installed for ease of swap. Then again it's not that hard to remove the side exit all together either.

Here is mine on a 6466 with a 1.15AR divided t4, which comes with a 3.5" exit off the turbine housing.
