Should I trade my 420a for a 4G63

Okay this decision is killing me...I met this guy the other day who has a 99 GS-T Auto Totally stock everything. The car has 98,000 miles but he says the motor was just rebuilt by john shepherd here in Ohio and has documentation of the rebuild. the new motor has 500 miles on it. He wants to trade me for my 99 GS AUTO with the following mods
What should I do???

And by the way I DID beat him in a race I was at 8 psi and he was at 15 psi
But obviously the 4g63 has more potential.

personally my favorite engine is the 4g63t so i would trade. alot more potential! alot!
great motor! and what kind of rims are those? 19'' but what kind? there sick!
 
Umm...this is the 420a forum, please leave your 4g63 bias opinions elsewhere. Who's to say it has way more potential, a lot, etc, blah blah blah. Rebuild the engine like anyone else wanting any power should, and with the proper work you can be just as fast :thumb:

If you're gonna continually think about why don't I own a 4g63, then please sell your car now to someone who wants to truely own it. This thread need not turn into another 420a vs 4g63 battle, and you don't need our opinion on what to do with your own car :dsm:
 
Thanks for the opinions, Sorry I'm not trying to start any battles...I like 2g eclipses no matter what kind of engine it has. The only reason i thought I should do the trade is cause I have made so many stupid mistakes on my car that are unchangable. This Guys Gs-t is totally stock and it would be kind of a clean slate to do right the second time around.

Does the Auto Trans in the GS-t Suck or no?

Sounds like you already made up your mind. I would go with it if everything checks out. This might be a 420a thread but he was asking for opinions and he received. Dont get all pissy. Just ask yourself if you are going to be truly happy with your decision. Good Luck
 
You making this thread, gives me this vibe that you want a 4g63T.

Well if it was a GSX with a 5 speed I would have all ready traded him but an Auto GS-t sounds about the same as what I got but with a diffrent motor. I have tons of money in my GS and it was my first new car I ever bought in 1999 and it has alot of memories. it would be hard to see it go....even though i would be getting the same kind of car haha I guess I'm sentimental.
 
I personally wouldnt put a body kit on it, and the auto tranny can be pretty good if built.
 
I'd keep the 420a. I'm as much a fan of the 4G63 as the next guy but the 420a is still a relatively new engine. It is more efficient and if you build it right it will perform as well as or better than a similarly built 4G63. I wouldn't even consider trading your car for a GST, if you decide to come over to the dark side, make the trade for the advantage of AWD.

i wouldnt do it your car is pretty clean and going to a gst might be cool but a 420a can be so much faster and from your profile you ahvent done internals when you hit that your gonna be way faster then now
 
I guess I was just excited that he wanted to do a staight trade....I feel like my car isn't far from being burnt out and needing a rebuild. It's getting little traces of white smoke in he exhaust and it has over 120,000 miles. I Honestly cannot belive the Toture and Abuse this 420a has gone threw and its all still stock and running GREAT!! I sometimes wonder why everyone says its such a crappy engine?
I have run Nitrous since 1999 when I bought it. At that time they didn't make a wet kit for this car cause it was too new. So I bought a dry kit and an extra fuel solinoid and rigged up my own wet kit so I had 2 switches...one for the NOS and one for the Fuel haha It worked but I can't belive I didn't blow it up. Then I got the Turbo about a Year ago and Have run way too Much Boost on accident and hit fuel cut a bunch of times with the missing link before I got my FCD, and its still runs like the day I bought the car with 3 miles on it.
My conclusion having owned this car 7 or 8 years now is that the AUTO 420a is almost undrivably slow when left stock. But the 420a is a very sturdy durable engine that DOES respond well too Boost and Nitrous alike. If properly maintained it can be a great motor.

I think I'm just going to keep My car...I have way too much work and money tied up in it to just trade it away.

He asked for opinions regarding whether or not to keep the 420A, not which engine "has more potential." We have specific rules against voicing unwanted opinions like those in the 420A Forums. Know the rules and play by them, otherwise get out.

Sounds like you made a good choice, Jeff. Personally, I wouldn't see the point in trading a 2.0L FWD for another 2.0L FWD car... especially with all you've invested in the car. I would think something is wrong with the car if he was so eager to make an even trade like that.

If it were a clean GSX, the decision would have been a lot more difficult.
 
Exactly...the awd demon always rears it's head to try and get the best of us to the dark side, but trading for a fwd seems quite rediculous to me with the money you have in your car. If it needs a rebuild soon, oh well...that's when u beef up the bottom end, and u go out and show those 4g63's what a 420a is capable of in the proper situation :thumb:
 
you beat him at less than half the boost. It's also your car. You know exactly what is going on with it. When you get someone else's car you have to fix what you don't feel they did right. I say if you've got the 4g63t bug, find a clapped out 1g and just enjoy your car the way it is :D
 
I havent done much to my car or put too much money into it but I definitely love it. I have however put a lot of time into it making it the way I want so far.

With everything you have done to it and being your first car I would never get rid of it...my opinion anyway. I think you made a good choice :)
 
Hey the way I see it, Is that your car has Done you Proud and doesnt deserve to be "traded" for something almost the same. Car Karma is Awfull, When I finnished my rebuild on my 91 AWD, My Loyal and Trusty 1.8 93' All of a sudden had a clutch issue
just as I lowered the AWD down for its first test run, I couldnt even get in gear to move it outa the way so I could drive my AWD. So I pushed it off to the side and Didnt drive it for 3 weeks later, and it seamed fine. :confused:

If you realy wanted to you can just convert YOUR car to a AWD 4g63! :thumb: From my understanding its Not all that Inpossible and can be done fairly cheap if you find a donor car.
