i just bought the car a month or so ago but have barely been able to drive it because it needs repairs. Basically I got screwed by the previous owner. It's going to the shop tomorrow for an estimate, but aside from a timing belt change I think it needs a tranny rebuild and possibly some other little things. It's discouraging because it's fun to drive hard but anoying as hell to drive around town. I'm afraid of the possibility of putting the money into this to fix it only to have to drop more money for repairs in the near future. From what I see on this site it seems like repairs are frequent. It's in perfect asthetic condition and only has 77,000 miles, the motor is still strong. Someone convince me that this is not going to add up quickly otherwise I'm getting out while I can.

Your money will go into it...that is just how older cars like these work.

If you want a cheap maintenance car get a new one or like an older corolla.

it's a 91 and its showing signs of a future tranny rebuild. I just get the feeling that dsm's require more maintenance than I'm willing to put up with at this point.

It is not a DSM thing, it is as CrankBender says.

I was in the same boat, but if you are like me and have no other hobbies or anything else to spend your money on , you will regret it if you sell it. I would be bored as hell if it never broke, i realized it gives me something to do. Even though its expensive id say its worth it...
