i have a 1997 awd turbo tsi talon and i bought a new 4g63 motor with 25,000 miles on it with stock turno and gunna put my 16 g on it and put in car i plan on puttin a new gates timing belt on it and a gates balance shaft belt on it before dropping in car..its an automatic so i thought id try a new aftermarket bs belt intead the whole elimination..thinks its a good idea??

well i mean it cant really hurt to take it off. remember the ol' saying "the less you have the less that can break" i would buy the elimination kit and since the motor is already out of the car itll be just that much more simple to remove it. your gonna get some vibrations though so if you dont mind them then go for it :thumb:

Yes, you have two balance shafts, one is belt drivin and one is drivin from your oil pump gears, if you eliminate the bs belt, you will still have one active bs and you will have alot of vibrations, so unless you eliminate both don't eleminate any.

When the engine was rebuilt, did it get new balance shaft bearings? If not then end of discussion; eliminate them. If new bearings were installed, then it's a personal decision that can, and has been, argued both ways.

The balance shafts have no effect on crank walk.
The balance shafts have no effect on the need to balance the rotating assembly.
